We Got Cheated

Hi Everybody,
All winter we've been reading about our friends getting snow and we've been seeing lots of pictures of them playing and enjoying lots of the white stuff.
We saw Mitch and Molly with lots of snow, more than they really needed for a good time.
The Lapdogs got lots of snow, enough for all four of them with plenty left over.
Our good friend Stella has piles of snow to enjoy.
And our favorite picture is of Dexter. Look at all the snow he has.
All we asked for was a little snow so we could run and play in it. Yesterday the weather dude said it was our turn and that this morning we'd have snow. We could hardly sleep last night thinking about all the fun we'd have this morning. But we got cheated! Look what we got.
Yes it's white, but it's not snow. It makes this loud crunching noise as it comes out of the sky and hits the ground.

It's very cold and very slippery. It's hard to walk on it and it gets between our pads and hurts.
All we got was stupid ice! Who wants ice? A dog can't do zoomies and roll in ice.
I hope they fire that weather dude and get somebody who knows what they're talking about. We want snow!
Your pal,
Fudge

Waiting For Winter

Winter is  coming today. At least we've been told that winter is coming today. At first the reports said it would start this afternoon. Now the latest reports are saying it'll start tonight and last thru the day tomorrow. So far, though it's dark and gloomy, not a snowflake or raindrop or ice crystal has fallen on us. But we're waiting and watching and hoping for lots of snow.
Mom says she's prepared if the power goes out. She lit the fire and has cooked up some chicken and we have plenty of dog food and cookies.
I have a little quiz for you. Who do you think is responsible for this?
I'll bet you guessed Sydney and Mackenzie, right?
Well, you're wrong!  It was Morgan.
The same old lady dog who remembers what fun it was to tear up toilet paper when she was a puppy. And when Mom caught her and chased her out of the bathroom, that same Morgan, the dog with two bad knees, ran up the stairs taking them two at a time. Maybe having puppies in the house is good for all of us.

Keep you fingers crossed that the snow doesn't skip over us again.
Your Pal, Fudge

Foster Dad

When Samba and Fudge's puppies were little, Fudge was too young and crazy and rough to play much with them. But Fudge has matured and now he's enjoying the new puppies. He plays with them everyday. The girls are so happy to see him come into the yard and can't wait to start playing. This day Fudge decided to run with them.
I love this shot with all four feet in the air .
Down the hill with Sydney scrambling to keep up.
Across the yard.
The girls are getting lots of good tiring exercise. They should sleep well after this.
Now back up the hill.
This is a great workout for all three of them, though Mac sometimes takes a different route.
Sydney asks Fudge if they can do it again.

He agrees.
Fudge is slowing down a little. The girls can keep pace with him.
Fudge is getting tired and now he's following the girls back up the hill.
Fudge decided to sit by me and let the crazy puppies run on their own the third time around.
They're having too much fun to quit.
I'm really proud of how well Fudge is taking care of his girls. Unfortunately, there's always a down side. He's starting to get overly protective of the puppies with the other dogs. Last night when Noah and Sebastian walked up to their pen, Fudge got in their faces and a brawl started. I put a quick stop to it, but we'll need to keep our eye on the situation.

President's Day

We used to celebrate Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays separately. I really liked that, especially when I worked at the bank because we had both days off. Now the powers that decide these things have declared that we must group all the presidents into one day. Oh well!
I have never met a president, but I have a connection to a couple and I've visited the homes of others. Let's start at the beginning.
I've been to George Washington's home at Mount Vernon. It's a lovely place and I can imagine George and Martha being happy there working in their gardens.
Rob and I have also been to Natural Bridge in Virginia where Washington worked as a surveyor. There's a little sign high up on the mountain showing where he was standing.
We've visited his monument in Washington, DC......
and his monument in Baltimore Maryland.
We have been to Jefferson's home at Monticello.
Why would anyone want to leave that gorgeous place to fight with politicians every day and carry the burden of being President? We spent a whole day touring Monticello.
Then there is my favorite President, Lincoln. I've always been fascinated with Lincoln and I was fortunate to live where I had access to many places involved with Lincoln and the Civil War.
We've toured many battle sites and cemeteries. We have visited Gettysburg many times and I feel the weight of history every time I go there. I've had the privilege of standing where Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg address. If you ever have the opportunity to visit Gettysburg, go. You won't regret it. Driving down the road, seeing the monuments in the pastures and the signs on houses indicating that they were field hospitals, makes you feel very humble.
I'm a lifetime member of the Surratt Society and have visited the Mary Surratt House several times. Rob and I took the 10 hour John Wilkes Booth Escape Tour sponsored by the Surratt Society and it was one of the best history lessons I've ever had. Mary Surratt was hanged as a conspirator in the assassination of Lincoln.

Just down the road from Mary Surratt's house is the home of Dr Mudd.

In Maryland we lived only a few miles from Tudor Hall, the family home of John Wilkes Booth. Rob and I were there a couple of times for events.
I haven't yet visited Lincoln's home in Springfield, Illinois. We have been to Ford's Theater and the Petersen House across the street  where he died.
Even though I've seen pictures of the Lincoln Memorial hundreds of times, I was unprepared for how impressive and massive and silent it is.
I also toured The Hermitage, the home of Andrew Jackson in Nashville, Tennessee.
Then there are the personal connections. I am related to John Adams....

and his son John Quincy Adams thru my maternal grandmother making me a cousin of two Presidents.
I am also related by marriage to James Madison. My Grandmother, the same one, is related to Dolly Madison, thus my claim to her husband James.
So there you have the reasons why I am celebrating President's Day today. Do you have a favorite President?
