Girls Just Want To Have Fun

I told you last week that we're letting Sydney and Mac spend part of the day in the back yard playing. It's been going really well. They go out for about three hours in the morning, then again after dinner till almost dark. When they come inside, they're nice and tired and spend all evening snoozing on the couch.
Everyone has benefited. The girls are getting lots of exercise and the other dogs are feeling less tension caused by naughty puppies getting into trouble. Win win.
Rob threw this toy for the girls the other day. It's a bumper attached to a ball with a thick rope. They like it because they can both carry it at the same time. They both chase after it.
Mac would like to bring it back to be thrown again, she's all about the chase.
Sydney likes to claim all the toys as her own.
They wind up in a wrestling match and usually forget all about the toy.
I spoke with our vet about the behavior problems we were having with the two little ones, especially Syd. He agrees that they are probably happier being outside more and getting lots of exercise.
Syd caught her first lizard. The lizard managed to get away but he left his tail behind. Syd, Mac and several of the Water Dogs were having a great time rolling on the little tail till Rob disposed of it. Dogs can be such dogs!

Don't they look happy?

  2. Girls are so big now. They are so pretty... puppies will be puppies.. full of energy and just non-stop. Glad both girls are able to release all those energy by running around a lot.. LOL!
If you have a bunch of kittens.. they are the same... they run and have no brakes... and they spring like tiny springs and they never stop.
I am sure when Syd and Mac gets older... they will be calmer.

  3. I can just hear the older dogs talking about how good it is to have the pups outside all day and why didn't Mom think of this a long time ago!

  7. This morning on our walk, Otto met a young boxer and then, a while later a sibe puppy! He got in some serious zoomies. Bart and Ruby were glad ;-)

Tonight I met an 8 year old portie! She was adorable. She had been the runt of her litter and looked to weigh about 20 pounds. She looked like a puppy. Very sweet and social.

  8. Thank goodness everything is working out.

It seems so counter intuitive doesn't it? Somehow it seems if we really love our dogs we have them with us. Some dogs obviously have different needs. I wouldn't be able to do that where I live, too many predators, coyotes, cougars, eagles and owls. Our little ones are NEVER outside by themselves, more than once we have looked up and have had birds of prey circling. It's a little disconcerting, to say the least.

I am so pleased for all of you that everything is going so well.

  9. Perfect solution for these little girls. They can burn up all that extra energy and be good (and tired) citizens at night. Just goes to show that sometimes we have to get creative in the individual needs of the pack. Someday these girls will probably be content to hang out in the house with the rest of you, but for now...too much pup! ha..

    Enjoy the beautiful weather!

  11. A lizard tail! I can just see them and how much fun it was to roll over it. Dogs that get lots of exercise or enough exercise for their particular needs are usually much happier and the old saying (I guess it is old). "A tired dog is a happy dog" seems to hold true either our dogs. Your 2 girls look very happy outside.
We finally were able to get back into the blog. Got back I. On the IPad now will give it a try in the laptop...
    Good to be back
Mom Barb... Thanks Ernie for sharing and "letting" me do it

  12. Beautiful girls! I'm glad you've found a solution to their problems. Gretchen will be delighted to hear that there are tail-less lizards in the midwest too. The Knight jokes that she's trying to start a new breed of tail-less lizards.

  13. Glad to hear the girls are doing better! Puppies need to burn off that energy. I'm sure the rest of the pack has breathed a collective sigh of relief. :-)
