Hug Week

July 15 thru July 21 is Hug Week.

I didn't grow up in a huggy family. Some of my friends did and they hugged everyone, friends, family and strangers. My sister used to be a huggy person, but I like my personal space.

As I've grown older, I've become more comfortable with hugs, but I still don't embrace everyone I meet.

My dogs with their hot Portuguese blood are big huggers.

They think any occasion is a good time for a hug.

Group hugs are fine with them.

Some hugs provide security.

Some hugs provide reassurance.

Some hugs are just to say hello.

Some hugs are just because...

Some hugs come as a surprise.

Some hugs are just spur of the moment.

Some hugs say "I love you and I hope you feel better soon."

Have you hugged someone today?

I think we came from the same family because I did not come from a huggy/affectionate family as well. In fact, I have been "accused" of not wanting to be hugged by friends or relatives but it's only because it's foreign for me to reciprocate. The only time my parents or sister ever hugged me was either right before getting on the plane or at the time of my arrival via plane or during a special occasion. I've gotten better at the "huggy" thing lately but I'm afraid I'll never get used to it! However, hugging my fiance and our pets feels wonderful!

I never really noticed. I think my humans are pretty warm but not all that huggy all the time I guess. They're probably more the hugging children and pets types. There are no children now, but they all hug us, and that's what really counts.

My mom is a hugger, that's for sure. She hugs family, furiends, pets, trees...you name it, she hugs it. My dad...not so much but after over 20 years of being together and around her family (more huggers)he has gotten use to her and her hugginess. :)

We LOVE hugs; but our legs are too short. We're more your snuggler types. Your guys look like professional huggers. Just makes you feel happy seeing all those hugs.

Our human doesn't mind the hug, but she's not a kisser.

Me and my Mom are big huggers. My Mom didn't used to be until she grew up and used to work with retired people and they were mostly huggers, so you just gotta do it. My Mom's current ambition in life is to get a Kodi-hug (one of the Thundering Herd). Read about it sometime, I bet you will want one too. They seem a little brutal to me though!

Cheers,

Consider yourself hugged again and again and again - at least once from each of us.

Mom didn't come from a huggy family but someway along the line because quite the hugger. She is always hugging on me and I see her hugging her friends everytime she sees them. I think she's making up for lost time! Excellent post!!! Lots of love, Holly and mom

Neither hubby nor I are huggy people. Once my kids pass the age of 12 or so, we don't really hug each other except when they're leaving for or returning from college. My oldest son is en route from Charlotte right now, and I am certain he won't want a hug when he walks in; he'll want food!

But, of course I've hugged Thor, and my little guy, Mark, today. That's enough, right?

Like you, I came from a family of non-huggers, too. Folks know I like my space, so they go out of their way to hug me...sigh. I do enjoy hugs with my pups, though, and I often hugged my kids when they were young. I didn't want to pass on the non-hugging gene..

I come from a not so huggy family too. Asians don't really hug that much.. i think :)

But as we got older.. and with the furries entering our lives, hugs are more frequent now.

Loved all your pictures... your doggies are so adorable and so much love to give. You are surely the happiest mom around. Happy weekend to you Sue... and to Fudge and gang.

our human is weird. she doesn't like to hug another human - same thing as you with the need for space. but she loves to hug us dogs. we appreciate her intentions and attention. she says we are very huggable. we will probably get extra hugs for hug week, but the human will try to avoid hugs from other humans. yuk.

woofs.

I came from a line of hand-patters, slap on the backers... I can be very huggy with those dearest to me, which is a good thing, because Sissy and her passionate French heritage requires LOTS of hugs and kisses. Gretchen and her Irish roots are fickle; sometimes, she has no boundaries and will french kiss a stranger, and other days, even her beloved Dadaw has to beg for a hug!

I find it hard to hug people too - I'm very protective over my personal space. Worse when they kiss too ... and I never know how many kisses it is - one? two? three? ... those embarrassing nose bumps ;-) But hugging anything that is fluffy - now I have no problem with that!
