Colonial Christmas

Robert and I spent  Christmas in Colonial Williamsburg in 1988. We took our two dogs Pylon and Bentley with us and had a wonderful time.

It was unseasonably warm that year and we had packed heavy winter sweaters. The day before Christmas the temperature reached 80 degrees and we thought we might need to make a trip out of the area to buy cooler clothes, but the next day cooled off enough to be comfortable.

I made reservations for this trip a year in advance. It was a challenge because we had to make decisions on where and when we would eat meals a year in advance. It worked out well and Williamsburg is delightful at Christmas.

Every building is decorated and prizes are awarded for the best decorations.

There are parades...

carriage rides.....

and lots of people in character who will stop and chat.

Bentley was fascinated with these geese until one chased him. Then he decided they weren't  so interesting after all.

We had our Christmas dinner at the Inn.
There was a huge tree.

The delicious dinner was accompanied by a harpist.

If you ever get the opportunity to spend Christmas in Williamsburg, I strongly recommend it.

We went to Williamsburg once, may even have been the same year, but it was June, hotter than blue blazes. Our kids were young and really not much into the historical aspect of vacationing. But the adults, including my mother, really loved it there. I would love to go back one of these days. You got some wonderful photos.

The holiday decorations are son nice! I really have to visit the Colonial attractions some time. I'm a little ashamed to say that I live in SW Virginia, and have been to (and through) Williamsburg a few times, but never visited Colonial Williamsburg. I'll put that on my To Do list. Happy Holidays!!

What a timely post - the two leggers were JUST talking about making a trip down to Williamsburg during the Christmas season one of these years. After seeing your pictures, it's a must! Like the OP, we've only been there during the summer.

LOVE CW at Christmastime. I've still not made it to the Grand Illumination yet, but I will, even if I have to tag along with some friends of ours who go most years!
