Eight Servings A Day

The 'experts' tell us that dogs are happy to eat the same food day in and day out. Those of us who actually live with dogs know better. I try to keep my dogs all on a nutritious diet of commercial dog food, but they get fruits and veggies and sometimes special snacks to make life more fun.

Several of my dogs have favorite foods. Tsar loves bagels with cream cheese. He sits close beside me each morning and nudges me to get bits of mine. Don't try to give him plain toast with cream cheese. He knows the difference and will walk away if you insult him with that inferior substitute.

Morgan will do anything for bacon. At one time she seemed to be addicted to it and went through
withdrawal. Now it's an occasional treat and she adores it.

Now Fudge seems to have discovered a new favorite, V-8 juice.

I can hear you asking, "How does a dog even know about V-8?" I don't care for tomato juice unless it's in a Bloody Mary, but Rob does like it and buys six packs of V-8, which he keeps in the refrigerator in the garage. A few weeks ago while standing around the garage waiting for the dogs to finish eating, he opened a can. Several of the dogs looked up to see what he was opening so he poured a little juice in their bowls. They all licked it up and seemed to like it.

The next day when I fed the dogs, Fudge sniffed his food, then sat down and looked at me. He refused to eat. Rob was drinking a V-8 so he poured a little over Fudge's food and the boy finished his meal and licked the bowl clean. Since then he refuses to eat unless I pour a little juice over his kibble. I'm sure after a few day of going hungry he'd start eating without his juice, but Dr B agreed that there's no harm in giving him some low sodium V-8 with his meals.
At least Fudgie is getting his eight servings of veggies each day, which is more than I do.

OMG Gretchen and I need that leash.

And Fudge? You can have ALL of my V-8. I can't stand it.

In our house, bananas, carrots and cheese make the world go 'round. Sissy loves mint anything and Gretchen is particularly fond of cinnamon or anything spicy-hot.

You'd eat a whole lot of veggies in my house. I hear tons of grumbling about it.

Thor would never eat unless he had lots of "real" food - aka people food. Dogs know what's in their bowls.

Really V-8 ? That is so cool.

Huck lived for peanut butter and apples.....

Radar, our deaf cat, loves butter. Just a dab on your finger will do.....

Mine love ice cream. Zodiac loves carrots-learned that from Oreo. He and lyric will eat almost anything. Legend is more picky.

That is hysterical! I buy V-8 by the case at Costco because JB has a can in his lunch every single day. Sometimes I like it - sometimes I don't. The dogs have never tried it. g
