A Friend In Need

Fudge can be a pain in the butt. His ego is very large and he delights in shoving the other dogs out of the way to get extra attention, but lately we've seen another side to his personality.

It's been two weeks since Morgan tore her ACL and we've all made adjustments to accommodate her injury. Either Rob or I are with her at all times to make sure she stays quiet. When we both have to leave the house, Tsar babysits her. He's well compensated for his service.
Fudge has been bringing toys to Morgan trying to interest her in playing, but her pain medication keeps her lightly sedated and she hasn't shown any interest in toys. He even brought his favorite ball over and left it beside her as she slept.
Several times a day Fudge sniffs Morgan's sore leg. I wonder if it smells different now that it's injured.
Now in the evenings when we're all gathered in the living room, Fudge settles down next to Morgan and sometimes even rests his head on her back as if to reassure her.
It's obvious that he's concerned about her. So even a narcissistic little guy like Fudge can show compassion for an injured pack mate.

Maybe Fudge wants to be a babysitter like Tsar and is just showing you what a good job he could do. That is one sweet story!

I used to take one of Stella's toys to bed with me, squeak it a little and she, of course, would come and take it away and put it on HER bed. Yet when I wake in the morning, its always on my bed, right close to me. Always gives me a good laugh!

All good wishes to the Portie family from Jo, Stella and Z'chat!

So very touching!! I think I've shared with you before what a good nurse Fred was to me, even though he definitely loved the Knight best...

Fudge! You are a friend in need for sure. I am sure Tsar likes the help with the nursing duties. It made momma cry a little in a happy sad way to read your post.

Slobbers,

We always knew Fudge is a great guy. He just has a great way of hiding it! After all, how else can he be sure to get his full fair share of the attention?

It's time like this when you can really see the connection our pups have to one another and know when there's something wrong, I find it to be quite touching. But then, there are those pups that are like people who are totally clueless!! :-))

Oh that is very sweet. I'm sure they know when their friends are sick or injured. We had the same when our sweet old girl Kara was ill near the end. Tyler (our daughter's dog) would lay next to her nearly all day when he visited. Hope Morgan feels better soon. No worries, and love, Carol (and Stella and Rory)

Dogs are amazing aren't they. When ever I've been pregnant our pooch (who does not like cuddles at all) always seeks out a snuggle on the sofa ... I do believe they know those around them are sick or need protecting etc ...
