Signs Of The Season

It hasn't been a very beautiful autumn here. Due to the summer drought many of the trees just dropped their leaves without a change of color. We're had a lot of wind lately and a few rainy days, so most of our leaves are now on the ground. But inside I have a definite sign that summer is over and it's time to prepare for the holidays.
The Christmas cactus are in bloom. The younger one has a lot of buds, but only a couple have opened so far.

The 'old girl', she's pushing 40 now, is in full bloom and adding a lot of cheeriness to the dining room where she resides.

These two will bloom from now till May if their usual pattern holds. I really look forward to seeing them flowering each fall.

A good friend had a lovely Christmas cactus that sat on a coffee table. People and kids were always walking past it, and often knocking leaves off. So when I stopped by I would pick up the fallen leaves, take them home and plant them. Before much time passed, I had a big healthy plant full of blooms. It survived Hurricane Hugo, but not the trip to Minnisnowda. I think I will get another one, I just love them.

Cheers and Hugs,

Jo and Stella

I love the xmas/thanksgiving cactus, they are the neatest plants and have really beautiful selection of color. sorry about the loss of leaves.. we had the opposite weather pattern...had lots of rain, then last week a nor'ester hit with lots of snow. the trees couldn't deal with the weight and broke..lots of damage around the whole state... no power for us for one week and a day, others are still out. it's to cold for this.. stay warm and enjoy the flowers. theBUSTER..AND THE GURLIES, MS. BLUE AND GRRRACIE THE GRRREAT, AND MS. PERSEPHONE TOO

My cactus are starting to bud too, but they aren't nearly as lovely as yours!! I need to pay better attention to them, they get neglected and it shows!

Howdy All, well now we know. We have a big pot of that cactus on our verandah but never knew what it was called. Ours flowers late winter here (about July/August). No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

Your Christmas cactus is just beautiful! Our mom doesn't have any luck with houseplants. She can't ever remember to water them.

Love ya lots,

Wow! Mine sometimes blooms, and some years not. I don't even see hints of buds yet, so I'm guessing this is a "not" year. Lucky you!
