Never Too Sick To Party

Fudge's birthday was last week when Tsar was so very sick. Of course, Fudge didn't know it. Today since the weather is warm and nice, we decided to have his little party. We invited Morgan and Tsar to join us in the back yard and they did.
We had valentine cupcakes because Fudge loves sprinkles.
This group is always ready for a party. No one is ever too sick for a party!
Rob handed out the cupcakes and everyone was very well behaved except Norma Jean who got left out and was trying to get his attention to let him know he'd forgotten her. She did get her cake.

Tsar liked his cupcake, which brings me to an update on his condition.
Tsar is doing much better, but he still shows weakness on the left side. His left front foot doesn't always go where he wants it to. Even on 40mg of prednisone a day, he's being very picky about eating. He'll eat chicken, cheese or turkey from our hands, but that's about it.
He acts almost afraid of putting his head in a bowl to eat. I'm thinking there's a problem with his vision that causes him to shy away from the bowls. Last night I put a combo of turkey, cheese and kibble on a plate and he cleaned it up.
I want him to eat other things besides chicken and turkey, so today I made his favorite soup with turkey, barley, sweet potatoes, carrots and green beans. I'm hoping to get some veggies into him, plus I'll mix in some of his kibble. I'm not sure how I'll get around the bowl thing, but I'll think of something.
As you can see from these pictures taken at our party today, he's not looking like himself. I have a hard time believing that a brain tumor would respond so quickly to prednisone, so I'm hoping that we're dealing with something else that may be controllable. Whatever it is, we haven't given up and he's improving a little each day.

I've been worried about Tsar. Glad to hear that he was able to go to the party, even if he's not all that well. Still any progress is good.

Happy George Washington's Birthday for real!

Nice to see Tsar enjoying the party. I hope that he continues to improve. It sounds scary and like he is confused. He has the best nurse ever.

I'm glad Tsar and Morgan were able to join the party. Hopefully, Tsar will continue to improve.

I have some weird, shallow bowls with a wide rim, like a cross between a plate and a bowl. If you think it might work for Tsar, I'll mail a couple tomorrow.

Back again. Just wondering if when you hand feed Tsar the food is higher (or he is able to keep his head higher upand if he has to put point his nose down to get into a bowl? My first golden got a deep inner ear infection (which caused alsorts of balance problems, he kept falling over, walking crooked as if one side didn't work, for a while couldn't even get up, was off food (probably felt seasick!), etc - treated by antibiotics) and I recall we raised his food bowl for a while which helped him be able to eat.

I was thinking that a 9" cakepan might work, it has some depth but not a lot. Its sure good to see our boy up in the chow line, anyway!

I hope everyone else got their cupcakes!

Cheers and hugs,

Could Riley be on to something here?

It is so good to see Tsar being out and about with his pack. We hope he will feel batter and eat well. Can you try a flat soup bowl? Or some sort of rimmed bowl that will hold the soup? How about a glass pie dish?

Paws crossed.

Those are really pretty cakes for everyone. I think Fudge am very pleased. Love Rob's sweatshirt :D

Thank you for the update on Tsar. He looks not too great yet.. but at least he is out with the rest to party. It is hard when they don't eat... but he's making progress and everyday is a great day when he eats a little bit more. You are the best mom ever.

i remember Dom didn't want to eat from his bowl too last year when he was very sick. He only wanted to be handfed. I gave him some tuna too. We didn't really know what happen then but after a course of prednisone, he got better. I hope the same for Tsar. Many hugs to all of you.

I'm glad he's responding well. I hope you work around the dog bowl for his soup. Maybe a very shallow soup bowl? Or a deep plate? I have dishes like that. g

We're glad Tsar is feeling well enough to join in the party and enjoy a cupcake.

Have you considered putting his stew in a flat, shallow pan, like a sheet cake pan? If the opaque bowl is bothering him, perhaps clear glass bowls would work [as long as they're secured or held so he can't break them]? If the bowls are metal, perhaps he's become sensitive to a metallic taste?

Keeping our paws crossed, Tsar.

Oh, Tsar... Maybe he could eat his soup out of a pie plate? The sides are shallow enough that maybe he wouldn't mind it, and it would kind of keep the soup from going all over. Just a thought.

P.S. LOVE Rob's sweatshirt!
