What A Storm!

Monday morning Morgan had an appointment with Dr B so he could check her leg and give her an Adequan injection to help it heal.
As we left the house it was starting to rain lightly. We only live about four miles from the office, but by the time we arrived it was raining hard.

We walked into the waiting room and weighed Morgan. Suddenly the storm hit. It got quite dark, the wind blew the doors open, then the power went out. The emergency lights came on and all the electronics started beeping  because they were on battery power.

Morgan is afraid of storms and a storm at the vet's office is every dog's nightmare. She was trembling and panting as everyone ran around trying to shut down computers and restore order. All the other patients and their families ran for their cars, but Morgan just needed to have her leg looked at and a shot, so we stayed.

Dr B was pleased with her progress. We discussed that this time her recovery will take longer because the other leg is still weak. He watched her walk and hopes that she starts putting a little more weight on her left leg in the next couple weeks.

When we got home the storm was almost over, though it continued to rain for a while. Morgan refused to eat and stayed curled in a ball, sleeping all day and evening. Rob and I were both worried about her, but by the next morning she was her cheerful self. We think she was so traumatized by the storm at the vet's that she chose her own way to cope, which was to sleep till it was just a distant memory.

Here she is today walking around the yard. You can see that she is starting to put some weight on her left leg now. We bought  a sling to help her get up the stairs, but I'm still carrying her most of the time. Next week I'll start using the sling and make her do some of the work.
Samba's tail is healed and I left the bandage off. I'm just hoping she doesn't injure it again, but if she does I'm ready. I know how to wrap it now so that the bandage stays on and I'm happy that she isn't going to lose her tail.
It looks like a good weekend ahead to start our training for the Olympics.

Sounds like the storm front here!
We are supposed to get all day rain tomorrow too. Stella is getting a little better about storms though. I don't know how she would do with one like the vet's.

Morgan is looking very much better and the video showed she was putting more weight on the left. Hooray for Samba and her highly excitable tail!

Cheers and hugs,

Jo, Stella and Zkhat

Oh poor Morgan!! Gretchen doesn't mind storms, but I think that experience could convince her otherwise...

I'm glad Samba's tail is better.

We need to look into the Olympics.

A storm at the vet does sound pretty awful! I am glad Morgan is starting to put some weight on it. Also, cheers for Samba's tail!

Have a great weekend.

Poor Morgan! I don't udnerstand why everyone else ran for the cars - seems better to keep the animals in the vet's office until it passed.

Oh Morgan - I would have been terrified of a storm at the vet. Abby used one of those slings when she hurt her neck - it was funny to watch, but she liked it because she could control herself that way. Hope you feel better soon - Beauregard James
