A Most Meaningful Gift

A while ago The Five Sibes had a giveaway on their blog. The prize was a portrait by Kathleen of
Kat 'n Kanine.
We didn't know about the giveaway because it came at a time when we were still trying to deal with the loss of Samba and Sky. However, our friends at the Op Pack won. Phantom, Ciara, Lightning and Thunder would make wonderful subjects for a portrait either individually or as a group.
Then we received an email that brought on tears. The Op Pack gave us the portrait to serve as a memorial to our lost pack mates. I contacted Kat and sent her some photos. I couldn't choose between Samba and Sky, so I told her to choose one and surprise me. She certainly surprised me, because she put them together in the portrait. We received it this week and it's wonderful so I want to share it with you.
This will hang in a special spot with portraits of some of our other dogs. It was a very lovely gift and serves to remind me yet again how caring and giving and supportive bloggers can be.

I start everyday by checking your site hoping to read more of your dog tales. I have laughed with you, cried with you, and sent you love and good wishes so many times. Its almost as if you and your pack are family. I have a crazy beautiful naughty funny Portuguese water dog named Bronson - I dont know how you handle more than one! Congratulations on the new babies, I hope they bring you much joy and love, although they will never replace those you have farewelled. I said goodbye to a much loved cocker spaniel recently and I'm not sure I'll ever fully recover. I look forward to more of your stories. Love Mel & Bronson. XXX

When The OP Pack won and she told me what she wanted to do, I thought what a wonderful gift and true Christmas story. It brought tears to my eyes. I know Kat personally, and she is an extremely talented gal! The portrait is beautiful. This giveaway will always hold a special place in my heart because it was done in the true spirit of giving. I have tears again just reading your post. I'll be doing a blog post over on FiveSibes as well soon. I hope when you glance at the portrait, you know your beautiful furbabies will always be in your heart and feel your love beyond the Rainbow Bridge. It's times like these that I am so, so very proud to be part of such a wonderful, caring Blogger community.
