The Hunt Goes On

After a morning thunder storm, yesterday turned into a sunny and warm day, perfect for the annual Easter Biscuit Hunt. This year we decided to use regular dog biscuits and broke them in half to be easy on the waistlines. Rob hid the biscuits in the back yard, then the fun began.
Noah found the first biscuit hiding in plain sight on the trampoline. After that everyone realized what was happening and the hunt was on.

All the water dogs have been doing this since they were puppies and they knew exactly what to do. This year the big surprise was that Tess didn't need any help. She took off searching in and under bushes and found several all by herself.
Sebastian was confused. He's never done this and he sat down and watched the others zig zagging across the yard. I tried to show him a few biscuits on the ground, but he wasn't fast enough, the Porties snatched them up from under his nose.
Everyone had plenty of biscuits, but the winner was definitely Miss Norma Jean. She was racing around, swallowing biscuits as fast as she could.
Then it was time for the junior division.

I put all the big dogs except Sebastian in the house and brought out Sydney and Mackenzie.
This time, without the pushy competition, Sebastian started searching by himself.
Sydney caught on quickly and was using her nose to sniff out the treats.
Mac followed her around and tried to steal the biscuits from her sister.
Finally, Mac found a biscuit and laid down to enjoy it.
In the meantime, while Mac was busy chewing, Syd was cleaning up.
Everyone agreed that this was an excellent hunt and next year the junior division should be able to take part in the big dog hunt.

I love it! We have some sweet potato tots we're going to hide in the yard this afternoon, since it rained yesterday...

What fun! I'm glad Sebastian got a second chance. It wasn't fair to put him up against all the dogs who knew what was going on already.

How fun! We've been plagued by grackles in the back yard. I think at some point, if we had tried this, the grackles would have outnumbered the Golden's!

So fun to see all of them enjoy this year's hunt. Good thing Sebastian got to go with Mac and Syd for the junior division.

It also shows how the Porties were really looking forward to this annual event.

Hooray for the sunny weather and the successful hunt!

Happy Easter once again!

So much fun!!! I keep saying we need to do this, but we never have. Glad to see the "junior" class got their own division! :)

I am glad to see that both the seasoned and junior divisions had a good Easter Hunt. Judging by this post and yesterday's, you guys had a wonderful Easter.

Oh, what fun!!!! We sometimes have a kibble scramble. SHE doesn't think we'd 'get' the hunting bit. The little girls look like they're having a wonderful time.

Looks like a good time was had by all. Sebastian must be feeling okay--that's great! I can't get over how huge the puppies have gotten!

We had one here too! "Some" are better than others at it. The girls stand in the yard and watch while I hide the 'eggs' in the front yard, and then I get them pumped up and open the gate. We do this throughout the year so they know what is happening. It's fun, even for the slow poke who I have to 'direct' to a treats. I bet it is great fun with your big crew going every which way. :-)
