Stop That Noise!

Yesterday was a perfect first day of spring. It was warm and sunny with not too much mud. The dogs played outside most of the day and slept in this morning. It doesn't get much better than that. Now, however, I have a rant. I just can't hold it in any longer. So go drag out your soapboxes because today we're taking on TV commercials, yet again.
What is it with advertising agencies and the companies who hire them? What is their obsession with doorbells????

Every day there seems to be another commercial with a doorbell. I try to get to the mute button before the bell rings, but I can't keep track of them all and I can't always drop what I'm doing to  hit mute.
Don't any of these people live with a dog? 1-800-Petmeds, especially should be ashamed of themselves. They should know how dogs react to doorbells. There are ads for pizza and car repairs and I could go on and on listing them. There are too many to even boycott, but I should send them a tape of the barking and the shouted HBO words pouring forth from my lips.
I often write to companies who annoy me but I'm sure they wouldn't pay any attention. I just have to try to be faster with the mute button. I can hear you saying why not train the dogs better. Remember I have ten of these noisy creatures and part of their job is protecting me and our home from intruders. I try to explain that a burglar isn't going to ring the bell before entering, but they can't grasp the concept.
Ok, rant done. I feel better already.

DING DONG! Very funny although I am sure you don't mean it to be so.

At our house, Stella doesn't respond at all to the TV bells (my volume stays very low!),and she now knows most of the people who come to the door and some idiot broke my doorbell anyway so we are bell-less at the moment. Its quiet here! Send Sebastian up, we may need the company.

Cheers,
Jo and Co.

We don't have that problem. If there's a doorbell on an Ad we haven't noticed. But then, we don't have a doorbell, so we're not conditioned to bark. However, no one would get close enough to our doorbell undetected.

Our human cousin writes commercials in the US. We'll write to him and tell him NO DOORBELLS!

We don't have a doorbell so we don't have that particular trigger BUT our storm door squeaks when it opens and there's a tv show that has a squeaky door on it. Every time we hear that squeaky door, it's every dog for himself! Drives mom bonkers because she never knows when they are going to open that door!

Train the dogs better. Sure. Mastiffs don't bark much; we used to joke that a burglar could be in and done with his business before Thor would know he was there if Thor were napping. On the other hand, I've read that a barking dog is the best deterrent to burglary.

Re: commercials: other than the new Toyota one with the St. Bernard who shakes with the Toyota sales lady, and the first time I see a new Direct TV ad, I fast forward through them. My time is much too valuable for advertisements. (Yes, I tape everything, and rarely watch live commercials.)

Enjoy your rant.

As I was reading your post, a commercial came on with a door-bell. The dogs we've had a while have all but forgotten what one is, and Todd, I don't think knows he should bark when he hears one--I will consider myself lucky! :-)

We don't have a doorbell either, so my girls don't care, but I agree with you! The Knight is no longer allowed to watch wildlife shows either; Sis no longer has any depth perception and she's tried to jump through the TV.

We don't have a doorbell but we hear all sorts of knocking (sometimes made up) and we go barking and racing to the door!

Love ya lots♥

OMG YES! We don't get Pet Med ads here in Canada, but you are totally right, they should be ashamed of themselves. Our door bell gets used rarely, mostly because the dogs hear people long before they get to the door (we have a long driveway), but even so commercials with doorbells are going to get written to from now on. If enough of us do it, they may stop. Right?

PS-we used to have a dog that was terrified by the Wheel of Fortune bells, couldn't watch the show but it didn't matter cause we didn't want to. 8-D

I can laugh because I've never noticed this phenomenon. Not having a doorbell it has just never been an issue. However---a barking dog always sets them off, so I can imagine the chaos with that many. :-) Looks like we are back to some not so nice and warm weather. At least we didn't get snow last night. Sigh.
