A New Adventure

This is big old post number 1201. I never thought I'd have so much to say. Thanks to all of you who have stuck with us and become our blog family.
I haven't been around much over the last couple weeks. There was a death in my family and though I checked in on you, I wasn't up to leaving comments. I'm hoping to make up for lost time over the next few weeks.

Now for my new adventure. You might call it an experiment at this stage but if it goes well, I'll be a happy camper and show off the results. I've seen some of the wonderful new collars your pups have sported changing with the seasons and holidays. You might say I have a bad case of collar envy. I've always wanted to get my pups holiday collars, but with ten dogs, the cost mounts up quickly. They usually stick with their old standby collars till the outgrow or damage them.

Today I made the decision to try making collars. How hard can it be?  I've found sources for the hardware. Look at all those pretty colors.
I've found webbing and ribbons.
I already have a sewing machine.
As soon as I can get a few items together, we'll give it a shot. Then maybe next year my pups can have spooky Halloween collars and pretty Christmas collars and Springtime collars, etc, etc, etc.

If any of you have experience making collars, I'm open to any advice.

Good luck. We only wear collars when we leave the property....mostly we go around naked. So our collars last a long time.

We can't wait to see what you come up with for holiday collars, Miss Sue! Our mom loves buying us collars. If she only knew how to make them!

Love ya lots♥

We bet you can come up with some gorgeous creations, and maybe a little business too:) We don't get to wear collars much because somepup chews them off the others and because we get them caught in the no-sibe fence. But we would love to have some pretty ones like those.

P.S. Sorry for your loss.

Good on you for making your collars for your dogs! My own human has only got as far as thinking about making me bandannas for special occasions and our blog is in hibernation (due to various other stuff, so lately we have only been up to visiting a few blogs), but we did do a post forever ago (though only four human years!) about "What does your collar say about you" http://rileytheretriever.blogspot.co.nz/2010/07/what-does-yours-say-about-you.html

We had lots of fun reading the answers, so I look forward to seeing what your new collars are like, and what they say about you and the time of year it is!!!

Woofs,
Riley

I make collar scrunchies. I sew a sleeve to fit over their collars using a seasonal fabric. If you want the scrunchy look, make it a few inches longer than the sollar so that it scrunches up. They're easy to make, very economical and washable. :-)

Awesome! A couple of us who foster have been making collars for the dogs we rescue and foster. I think it us fun. Main thing is getting the procedure down. I gave even made some for our 5. I think you will enjoy it. Definitely cheaper than buying sometimes. Besides it is fun coming up with colors patterns etc. Can't wait to see them. :-))

Wow, you're talented. 10 dogs???? Oh wow. No wonder you're so busy. There's 4 here and my peeps are always busy. 10 would be very challenging.

I haven't made collars totally, but I have made seasonal "slipcovers" for their old collars. That is the easiest for me!
