Arrival Of Autumn

Today is the first day of Autumn. It's a dark rainy day following a night of thunder storms.

The storms brought down clusters of acorns which should delight the squirrels. Unfortunately, the dogs enjoy crunching them, too. I worry about tummy upsets as well as cracked teeth, but I'm outnumbered.

Tsar is enjoying being outside once again now that the temperatures are down. Here he is with his coat full of fallen leaves. His appetite has picked up and he is a happier dog in general. It's funny to watch him walk outside and sniff the air as if checking for an approaching snowfall.

Look closely and you'll see our resident dove sitting on the peak of the roof. Those are mourning doves beside her and she's at least three times their size. Next to them she looks like a big white chicken. She hangs around all day, eating at the free seed bar on the deck and watching us come and go.

Fudge and I are getting serious about his training. Yesterday I sent in his registration for the obedience trial. It's on October 16th and 17th. We only need one qualifying score and he gets his title. I know he can do it if he concentrates and doesn't try to show off for the judge.

I'm getting the urge to sew and I'm lining up some projects to start. The girls' tails are flying again. Lola's was OK yesterday and this morning Bailey's was back to normal, too. I'm off to start a new cross stitch and watch some new tv instead of reruns. I love the first week of the new season.

Love the spotlight on Tsar! How are the sore tails?

I am so glad to hear that those lovely tails are back to normal. I had never heard of swimmers tail. Oh the doggy info that I learn from your blog!
I know Fudge can do it I have every bit of confidence in him. Even when he goofs up he is still so darn cute!
Happy first day of Fall Sue.

I'm enjoying the cooler temperatures too. The autumn breeze is so refreshing and I find that I can play harder and longer without all the summer heat. Good luck with your training, Fudge. I'm sure you'll do great.

My kids feel like Tsar too. Heads high, noses in the air, tails pointing skyward - they love the cooler temps.

So glad to hear that the girls tails are feeling much better. That must not be fun at all.

Can't wait to see what you're sewing. What tv do you watch? g

Glad to hear the tails can wag again.

Pretty funny about the acorns.. I guess I'm fortunate in that Marge wants nothing to do with things like that, despite the fact that she tries to eat almost anything that's edible.

I hope you get that qualifying score! I'm such a pussy... I need to really get back into the 'smart dog' rings.

Galaxy doesn't even have her CGC yet, and I wimped out again! (She's failed twice already, ONLY because she grumbles when I leave her) Cee is such a smart girl though, she needs a whole collection of letters after her name!

I bet Fudge would love dock diving!

I, too, love this time of year. The leaves have turned, and each night we get closer to our first frost. Milo is entering his winter hibernation mode where all he wants to do is snuggle and sleep in the afternoon sun. And yeah for new TV programs.

You sound like our Mom - always planning the next project.

PS - we're glad to hear that those tails are back up again.

Our dogs have all loved to crunch on acorns. I can't put a net over the whole property, so like you, I've thrown my hands up and hope for the best.

What great photos, as always!

Go Fudge! Maybe Sissy and Gretchie should train with you in spirit? (After a wretched incident last night around midnight, when Sissy again demonstrated her remarkable ability to ignore that DOWN command. Nothing like a 47 lb. basset stomping around while the rest of the bed tries to sleep!)

Sounds like very busy times at your place. We are so glad we don't have to deal with any acorns here, Mom remembers lots of them when she was back in New England, but we only have smal trees here and no oaks.

Good luck to Fudge - we know he can do it.

We are also really enjoying the cooler air, especially early in the morning.

Tail wags, the OP Pack
