October

October is 'Adopt A Shelter Dog' month.

Three of my dogs, Libby, Pylon and Bentley were adopted in October. Our canine family currently has two mixed breed members. Morgan was adopted just before being taken to a shelter and Tsar was adopted from a shelter.

Could you ask for a cuter face that this? Morgan will be ten years old in November. She's a sweet little animal that is shy with anyone but her own family members, but she's a tough little girl that has overcome some health problems and is living life to the fullest.

Morgan was a neglected puppy who was malnourished.

Here she's taking her toy to show to her friend Spooky who lives across the street.

Morgan stays close by Rob. Here she carries her toy around while he paints. She's always ready to climb in the car and go with us and will try almost anything. She's loving and trusting and there's no better companion.

Tsar will be eight years old in November. He and his littermates were abandoned at a shelter. If the family didn't want puppies, why wasn't his mother spayed?

Tsar acts more like a cat than a dog. He's very aloof but he does like to play with Rob.

He's a very strong dog and has to be reminded not to nip when he plays, but he listens.

Everyone likes to have their backs scratched.

Rob and Tsar having a conversation.

These two dogs are pure joy to live with. They each have some baggage from their former lives. Many shelter dogs do, but it's nothing that can't be handled with patience and love.

I adore Portuguese Water Dogs and hope to always have some of them in my life, but I'll also always have an adopted dog that needs a home. There's room in my home and my heart for both.

What a wonderful post! As much as I love my Emma, she is the last dog I will be buying from a breeder. It is so rewarding to adopt a homeless animal, and there are sooooo many out there... Tara and Cooper (especially Cooper) have had their "issues", but both have given me so much more than I could ever give back to them.

Wonderful post! I agree wholeheartedly. Milo is our 5th shelter dog, and reminds us daily that love comes in lots of forms.

Nice post! I would love to have a few purebreds in my lifetime, but I think I, too, will always have rescues.

Great post! Thanks for sharing their stories with us. It's always nice to hear stories about dogs that finally get the home they deserve. I didn't know that October was Adopt a Shelter Dog month, but my next post will mention it. I'm so grateful for every day that I spend with my family, but continue hope and pray for my friends who still live in the shelter where I came from.

I really like my Glow Ball. I love it when my mom wraps it in a blanket then turns off the lights so I have to find it and dig for it in the dark.

Thor looks like the last picture of Tsar when he's talking to us. He's a very handsome fella, and Morgan is so sweet.

Cool post - we so agree with everything you say about adopting a rescue.
Martha & Bailey both have some baggage as you say but they are two of the most loving dogs anyone could ever want.
Maybe one day when I am retired I will have more.
I do envy you all your wonderful dogs.
xx
ps rescue dogs come in purebred too....both of ours are pure basset but that was not enough to save them from being abandoned!

This was a great post, Sue, fun to learn more about your rescue pups.

I think of all my dogs, over my 70 years, only one has been a purebred. A Scottie, Otis, who was my retirement dog. He was the first "self actualized" dog I have ever own and a real joy. He lived to be 16 years old. The rest came out of shelters and one came direct to my door!

Stella, will be three soon, and just a wonderful dog. Three months at a shelter and loves her home sweet home as I love her.

Cheers,
Jo, Stella's Mom

What a terrific post! Morgan and Tsar are beautiful and lucky pups. Morgan looks so much like our first adopted dog, Muggs, that I had to get my husband to come take a look. We adopted our Sydney 10 years ago from a rescue shelter. She's a joy and we're very lucky.

Morgan looks like a wonderfully huggy dog with all that great hair! I admire your feelings about rescues--very caring. I am a Boxer lover so I've always had purebreds, but my heart goes out to doggies who need a home.

Such a lovely post Sue. Shelter animals do make such wonderful companions. They always seem so grateful. All our kitties came to us by way of no one wanting them and they have been nothing but joy in our lives.
