When Did I Lose Control?

A year ago things seemed to be under control. Rob would leave for work, picking up a cup of coffee and a doughnut on the way. When I woke up, after feeding the dogs, I would fix myself a cup of coffee and sit in the living room to watch the news and drink it. Occasionally I would make myself some toast.
When I finished my breakfast, each dog would get a biscuit. They were happy with the situation.

Then Rob retired.

At first we went out for breakfast regularly and Morgan went with us. As you know she became very fond of bacon. She started demanding bacon daily until we decided to break her habit by eating at home. She went thru withdrawal over several weeks, but now we don't have the whining and pacing at the door anymore.

Now Rob and I have fruit and bagels most mornings.

Rob felt sorry for the furry little beggars gathered around the table watching us eat, so he started making toast for them each morning. He buttered their toast and cut the slices into the appropriate number of pieces and each dog got two small pieces of toast.

I like cream cheese on my bagel and at some point Tsar realized that what I was eating was different from the buttered toast he was getting.

One morning a few weeks ago he nudged me with his paw, then put his big head in my lap. I made a terrible mistake. I gave him a tiny piece of my bagel.

Since that day Tsar has decided that he doesn't want buttered toast. At first he settled for cream cheese on his toast, but after a few days of that he refused it and made it clear that he wanted a bagel with cream cheese.

This morning Rob cut up an apple for the dogs and birds to enjoy, but Tsar refused it. Normally he loves apples, but he stood staring at the bowl of strawberries until Rob gave him one. He sat there obviously enjoying his berry and bagel.

What has happened here? From a pack of pups who were happy with a biscuit to fussy little gourmets who want bacon and strawberries and bagels covered with cream cheese, I've obviously lost control of the situation.

Tsar has a message for you dogs out there in cyberspace. There are good things to eat if you pay attention and know how to ask.

LOL, sounds like our house! They all have their own little likes - and lusts - and different ways of begging for what they want, lol

Actually I think Tsar's message is "Come to our house, it's great living here!"
This made me giggle. They sure do have their ways of getting us to do what they want, don't they!

From a dog who gets pushy over strawberries to a cat who insists on deli ham for breakfast, I know right where you're coming from!

Funny! I don't have the whining and pawing, but I do have two little hands signing madly while a small face with big eyes tries the Kreskin routine...

Yes. Thor will not eat his dinner unless some human food is added to his Bites & Bones. They do figure out how to control their people; it's like having stupid slaves.

That's funny. Looks they are good people trainers!

I'm the same way. Before I used to be quite content with your regular sliced American cheese, but after tasting a block of cheddar cheese and some really tasty Azorean cheese I walk away with a huff whenever offered American cheese. Tagpi doesn't care and will eat anything.

Love Tsar. He does look like he knows what he wants. Mine would eat the toast and then continue nudge for the bagel. g

My Max says the same thing, He knows a good meal when he sees it, and makes sure he's always close enough to my heals so he doesnt miss anything! Although he's never missed a biscuit he doesnt like.

Lilly and Java have to have their morning piece of bacon to get their day going. Thankfully Piper and Carrleigh are still sleeping.

Tsar's face gets me every time. A picture really is worth a thousand words.

My girls are far pickier than the boys. Gretchen - of course - is choosier than Sissy.

They have us wrapped around there little paws don't they, just like my bonnie. I think you know your not on your own. Thanks for leaving a comment at my blog Sue. I would suggest for a first time knitter that you mentioned, this book would be a bit too much for a first one. But one I know thats called, LEARN TO KNIT by PENNY HILL published by Connaught is a good beginner one with a step by step guide, with 80pages hardback. Hope this helps. best wishes Julie.C

Sounds exactly like our house! I blame my husband - he never makes toast without making some for the dogs.
Both have gained weight since being spayed and I am the one who has to face the vet.
They have both perfected the starving look which my husband given into all the time........
