Over the weekend I read a blog post that I've been thinking about ever since.
Kim posted it on her blog Life At Golden Pines. It's the story of her neighbors who used to live a block and a half from the World Trade Center. It tells what they went thru to rescue their two dogs who were in their apartment that morning.
Go take a look at her story and think about what emergency plans you have for your animals or what plans you should be making for them.

I think about it many times. If there was a fire how should I do it or an earthquake...It's scary!
Scary stuff. We did like the story. Thanks for telling us

Great reminder - so important to have a plan in place.
I think about it very much. It is very scary. Lots of love, Debbie and Holly
what a story! i'm so glad that they found the dogs okay. it's amazing how resilient they can be.
i've thought about emergency plans for my pups. we have a plan.
Thank you for this link. I'll go read it now. We're always planning here just in case...

THANK YOU for telling your readers about this story! The first time I read the story I was like you, it was something that I could not stop thinking about either. I think it's because I know I would have felt those same emotions and desperation that Nan and Eric did in trying to get to their pups!
But I think that you've brought up a good point in that all pet owners should have a plan for the "what if" should it ever happen. I have to admit that for us, up until Hurricane Katrina we never thought about it. But one thing that we realized that we need to have, especially being a "multi dog" family is to have a vehicle that will accomodate all of the dogs should we need to leave--Having to leave your home and then finding that you do not have room to take everyone, would be devastating! So, for us, until we get down to 1 or 2 pups, (which will probably be never!) it's going to be a mini-van for us!
Took me time to read the whole article, the article is great but the comments bring more brainstorm ideas, thanks.

This was really touching. I cried all over again when I looked at the pictures.
I think about that a lot when I leave the dogs home alone. It's scary!
I have it bookmarked to read later today.
Thanks for pointing it out.
Yep. That's part of the reason our girls have their own "luggage" and it stays packed. The Knight could grab that and Sissy's prescription kibble all in one swoop, leaving me to grab dogs and Gretchen's kibble, and our meds.
We also have a trust for our pups in our wills.
