We Brake For .......

We live outside the city. Although you might not think of it as the country, we're surrounded by farms and woods. It can make driving interesting. We've had to brake for big animals like cows and deer and even a couple horses that got loose, but normally we watch for small creatures, especially at night. We brake for raccoons.

We brake for possums.
We brake for rabbits.
We even brake for those pesky squirrels.

I'm a frog lover, so we watch for those times when the frogs are crossing the roads and highways.

We brake for these fellows because who wants to smell like them?
We brake for turtles and get out and either help them across the road or put them in the car, bring them home and release them in the woods behind our house. Rob has brought home dozens of turtles since we first met.

This morning we had to run some errands early. Then we stopped for breakfast. About two miles from home Rob spotted something in the street ahead. We were in traffic, so we went around the corner and stopped. I jumped out to see if I could help.
It was a baby monkey.
We brought him home and gave him a bath. Now he'll be a new friend to Miss Morgan.
It pays to brake for animals in the road.

We brake for animals, too. But we mostly get lizards.

SHE loves raccoons, had one as a child in Virginia...found as an injured baby and was a pet until he reached maturity, then went off into the woods behind the house to live like a raccoon.

XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy'

Lucky Morgan. Won't Bailey be jealous?

My assistant is a wee bit scared of raccoons and possums, but they sure look cute in these pictures.

The little red bear sure is lucky you rescued him!

Your pal, Pip

MONKEY, not bear! Sorry, didn't have my glasses on!

What are you naming the cute little red monkey? How about an old English name like:

Woadkil

In Wisconsin we had lots of deer crossing, badgers, skunks and porkies, but here in town its just the usual suspects, cats and dogs.

Cheers and hugs,

Jo

Monkey rescue! Good thing you were there.

Slobbers,
Mango

P.S. Momma is so sad over all the dead animals she sees on the road. She always keeps an extra sharp eye out when driving at night and uses her high beams and goes slowly on wooded lanes even though drivers behind go mental fits.

I also love reading about those places where under-road or aboveground crossings have been make for animals.

How nice are you? Braking for baby monkeys! Morgan will love it. I was able to 'rescue' hedgie from certain death in the yard when somebody left her out in the rain. g

BOL! You saved a monkey stuffie BRAVO! :D

My Mom does the same thing. Slams on the brakes, sets off the hazard lights and helps the turtles cross the road. I'm sure other drivers think she's nuts and perhaps even yell a few HBO words at her. Oh well ;)

Wonderful photos of all the critter families crossing! :)

Waggin at ya,
