The Glow Of Security

Back in 1993 I slipped on a wet deck and broke my wrist in three places. Since then I've understandably had a heightened fear of falling.  Prior to that accident I never slept with a nightlite. Since then I do. Rob complains about my searchlight and claims it keeps him awake, but his snoring proves that it doesn't affect his sleep at all.

When we moved to this house I not only had a nightlite in the bedroom, but I  have several in the hall so that when Samba and I take our moon gazing trips each night I can feel safe without turning on the lights.
The pups were born in late October 2006 and around Thanksgiving we had an ice storm. One sunny morning a couple days later I was walking to the mailbox when I slipped on some black ice in the driveway. I broke the same wrist. This time I wore a bright pink cast, but the fact that I had eight four week old puppies made the whole incident more difficult.
Today I received a package in the mail from a dear blogging friend. Inside was a new Portie nightlite. It's currently residing in the bedroom and lights my way to the door so that I don't step on any sleeping dogs as I move around. It casts the warm glow of safety and security. Thank you.
Do you sleep with 'search lights' aka nightlites, too?

Mom has lots of nightlights in the house, upstairs and downstairs. But she is such a klutz she could trip with all the lights on everywhere.

Nice new light, nice friend.

I read "nightlights" as "nighties" and had a brain freeze before my eyes focused.

Thanks to Thomas Edison we never have to be in the dark again.

We use nightlights at the beach house, but here in the woods, we have motion sensor lights outside that are all tied together, so generally if Sis insists on going out in the night, the deck light is already on, guiding us like a lighthouse.

I haven't fallen in the dark, but I've jammed toes a' plenty.

I have no need of my own lights! My neighbors work until 2 am and they leave their porch light on all night long, it shines right in my bedroom. I have a street light next to my driveway that keeps my kitchen illuminated in any kind of weather. At first I hated it and now I love it. This lights about 60 per cent of my downstairs. Anything else I need, I flip a switch!

Cheers and Hugs,

I too read nightlites as nighties and then had a laugh, sorry! No we don't use nightlites here. Our two dogs sleep in the laundry and don't get up during the night and we have a bathroom off our bedroom so I just feel my way if I need to get up. I love your new nightlite. What a thoughtful friend you have. Take care and oohhh those broken wrists sounded so painful. It's no wonder you have a fear of falling. I would too! No worries, and love, Carol (and Stella and Rory)

You betcha mama uses nightlights. And a cane. Sometimes two canes. And we sleep with the tv on all night, which gives extra light. Mama's taken some tumbles, but hasn't broken anything yet. The fear of that, however, is a powerful motivator. We've never had any problems sleeping with the lights and tv on, whether in the living room or bedroom. We're so adaptable.

Your new nightlight is wonderful! Wonder if they make them in Great Dane?
