May Day

May is possibly my favorite month. When I lived in Central New York, May was the month when winter ended and everything woke up.
Mid May we'd have a warm day followed by a gentle rain and when we woke up the next morning, Green Day had arrived.
The grass was green and the trees had leafed out and the world looked cleaner and fresher and we all were struck with a major case of spring fever.
My girlfriend and I often played hookey from work on Green Day and walked in the park and ate outside at a cafe. I loved Green Day.
We don't experience that here. Winters here are shorter and milder and the change isn't as stark. But even here living things are waking up.
There are so many ways to celebrate May Day. From dancing around the Maypole.......
To showing off our strength.
Whatever happened to the custom of hanging May baskets on the doors of friends and neighbors?  Personally, I'd like to see that one come back.
Here in Portieland, we celebrate May Day. Guess how!
That's right, we celebrate with water. Rob dragged out the pool and turned on the hose.
Then Rob and I sat back and watched the fun.
Of course Norma Jean had to get in the water immediately.
This is a first. Usually Bailey avoids water, but this year she not only showed some interest, she actually got in.
Everyone was having fun.
Fudge was so happy that he burst into song.
Sebastian doesn't like the water, but he did find something to do.
The puppy girls weren't too sure about the water, but they did discover lizards and bunnies, so they stayed very busy.
Afterwards, Bailey and Sebastian relaxed under the tree. May Day is a favorite around here.
Do you celebrate May Day?

I loved May Day too, with the delivery of handmade May Baskets full of candies. We would hang them on the door knob, knock and run! Then go into another neighborhood where Aunties and Uncles lived and basket them too.

Such fun, how can we get it back!

When our human brother and sisters were young, we always found a May basket at our door, but our neighborhood has forgotten the tradition. We told Mom maybe she needs to initiate it.

Everything is so pretty and green and abloom here too. Hope the cold blast coming tomorrow doesn't spoil things.

Happy May Day!

Wow, what a fangtastic way to celebrate May Day! I like the idea of hanging May baskets on people's doors. Maybe we could include some milkybones too, to include their pets in the fun!

The May Day basket surely is pretty! I'm glad the Porties got to use their pool, and the non-water dogs found something fun to do! Your yard is beautiful with all of the flowers right now.

Guys you could have had a great time in our stream... it's low and trickling at the moment and looks so quaint :-) A pack paddling down it would have made a great photo.
Freya isn't that keen on water apart from the rock pools on the beach.. Good to see you all again guys x x x

Water again!!! (and not bath water) No wonder Fudge was singing!

Our seasons just sort of blend into each other. But we had leaves on the ground to crunch through and wee on. And it's cooler in the mornings.

We never knew about the May baskets...maybe we can renew that tradition with TREATS.

We don't celebrate May Day, but I have to admit, the dogs enjoyed a great day anyways! We drove home to my parents' last night, and they've been running, chasing birds, and sunbathing all day.

BTW, we used to use a water trough for the dog pool, too! Worked great. We're back to a kiddie pool, though.

Not familiar with the May basket tradition. Looks like your pack had a great May Day celebration! Love the way the water got progressively muddier. :-)

Well, it so happened that our community celebration (where we hand out grants and such) was on May 1... does that count?

I loved May Day in school and enjoyed the Maypole dance, but no... we don't celebrate. Maybe we should!
