Leap Day Treat

Happy Leap Day Everyone!

We Water Dogs leap every day so this is nothing special to us, but today Mom said we needed to do a review for Chewy. We're a little late this month because our review items got lost and never got to our house. Mom told Miss Sydney and she sent us out another one so that we wouldn't feel left out. Wasn't that nice of her? This is what she sent.

We love Zukes in this house but this is the first time we've tried the dental chews. We got apple flavored ones because we all love apples. They also contain alfalfa, parsley, rosemary and fennel to freshen our breath. That's especially good for Sebastian because Mom calls him 'fish breath'. He's a good guy but his breath can knock you over.
So since today is our alternating summer day, today is 70 which means that tomorrow should be around 20, we decided to go outside and try these out.
We all gathered around Dad and he handed them to each of us.
Mom said to be sure Tess and Noah got theirs because they have the worst teeth. Tess needs to go see Dr B for a cleaning this summer.

Everybody enjoyed them and they took a few seconds longer to chew than a regular treat except for the little girls.
Sydney took hers off and chewed for quite a while.

Mackey really worked on hers. She has a little mouth and it took her a long time to finish.
Dr B told Mom that no treats will take the place of brushing, but these seemed to make us stop and chew a little longer and they sure do help the breath.
Mom says they might help Syd and Mac, but the rest of us eat them too fast too be of much help. Still, she might try them again for the little girls and for Sebastian's stinky  breath.

As for the rest of us, we think they taste great even if they don't clean our teeth. See, they're gone!
Now Mom has a couple things to say.
Fudge

I need to confess that I chose the smaller size on these treats for two reasons. First there were more in the bag so that everyone could have two to try and second, because the smaller size was easier for the little girls to chew. I knew my big dogs would just eat them up but I wanted Syd and Mac to have a good chew and they did.

Chewy sent these dental chews at no cost to us in exchange for our honest review.

Sydney

Some of you have asked how Sydney is doing with her mental problems, so here's a little update. Syd is on Prozac and taking anger management classes. So far all is going well. There have been no sneak attacks in four months.

Each morning she takes three Prozac capsules with her breakfast. Then, weather permitting, she spends a lot of time outside. Dr B says she needs plenty of exercise and space to work off her anxiety.
Outside she can manage to get along with the other dogs because she doesn't feel crowded.
When the weather isn't cooperating, she has learned how to avoid stress by finding her safe places. Safest of all is her crate, which she loves. She has a couple blankets and her toy cow and she enjoys nesting where she feels totally safe.

She also has a spot in the garage where she goes and sits quietly. The others know to leave her alone when she's in that spot and she waits for one of us to escort her somewhere safe. She has learned to wait outside till all the other dogs are in and then she can come in calmly, no craziness with everyone jumping around.

She eats by herself with either Rob or me sitting with her and giving her encouragement. We both try to use only positive language with her and not stress her with our commands or tone. She is no longer allowed in the main part of the house where she gets overstimulated.
I have been doing simple obedience commands with her and she learns quickly and loves the attention. Since starting the drugs she has a greatly decreased appetite and treats aren't an incentive, so I just use a lot of happy talk and petting. It seems to be working.

Syd's very favorite activity is hunting. She's part Beagle and part Dachshund, so it comes naturally and she spends a lot of time patrolling the yard and keeping squirrels up in the trees. She did manage to catch a squirrel a couple months ago, but her main prey is the huge mole population.
Yesterday was a good day for Syd, not so good for the moles.

Norma Jean Discovers Westminster

Last night after everyone was fed and settled in for the evening, I sat down to watch the Westminster Dog Show. Mackey was snuggled into the blanket at my feet and Norma Jean took her favorite spot on the corner of the couch opposite me. She usually keeps her eyes on me till she falls asleep from boredom. But last night she happened to look over at the TV.
She sat there for a few minutes watching the dogs parade around the screen, then I heard a low growl and she raced over to check things out. The photo quality isn't great, I was using my Kindle as it was the only camera that was handy.
Where did all those strange dogs come from and why were they in our living room?
Mac looked up to see what was disturbing everyone.
Norma Jean refused to settle down again and paced around the room, always going back to check on the dog show.
I think she picked her favorite here.
Norma Jean picked the Great Pyrenees  and I picked the Borzoi. We were both wrong. The winner was a gorgeous German Short Haired Pointer.
Congrats from Norma Jean and me.

BIG Holiday

Hi Everybody,

Today might just be the most important day of the whole year. Yes, it's Valentine's Day, but that isn't the best part. Today is my birthday. It's my number 11 birthday and that's a big one. Did you all know that I was born in Arizona and I have two brothers?

This morning when we woke up it was very cold and icy. When the day warmed up and the ice melted, Dad and Mackey took off in the car. Look what they came back with.
Do you see all those sprinkles? Yum!

They also brought this back and boy, does it ever smell good. Mom and Dad each had some but Mom says dogs don't eat chocolates, just like peeps don't eat poopsicles. Ok, I guess I understand.
We also had a delivery this morning. Mom ordered some of this for the girls for Valentine's Day. We boys get Evanger's Duck Dinner all the time so she thougt the girls should have a special treat. Thanks Mom.

Now go tell your peeps that because it's a big special day, you should each get a treat to celebrate.
 Your pal, Fudge

I'm In

Hi Everybody
I'm sure you all know that there's an election later this year. Our house has been invaded by political noise and yours probably has, too. It's on the TV all the time and sometimes the phone rings and it's political stuff calling to annoy Mom.
There have been things called debates on TV, too. When they come on Mom either yells at the TV or goes to play on the computer but Dad watches them and sometimes I stay and listen. Well, let me tell you, I am pretty worried. The political peeps keep yelling about how bad everything is and nobody tells me how they're going to make it better. Scary stuff!!

So I was thinking about the peeps that are trying to get votes and I decided that I can do better.  I even thought up some slogans. Let's see what you think about them.

LOTS OF TREATS AND LOTS OF NAPS, DON'T WASTE YOUR VOTE ON THOSE OTHER SAPS!
WHAT'S THAT THING ON TOP OF TRUMP'S HEAD?
IT LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING WE FOUND DEAD.
IT'S NOT SOMETHING I'D EVER WEAR.
SO VOTE FOR THE ONE WITH THE BROWN AND WHITE HAIR!

DON'T VOTE FOR CRUZ,
HE'S GONNA LOSE.
MAKE HISTORY
VOTE FOR ME!!

FEEL THE BERN SOUNDS LIKE IT HURTS
SO FEEL THE NUDGE AND VOTE FOR FUDGE!

KASICH, NOTHING RHYMES WITH KASICH. BUT IT SOUNDS A LOT LIKE CAR SICK AND NOBODY LIKES THAT!

Just think about it everybody, these are historical and sometimes hysterical times. The candidate aren't just two boring white guys. There's an old Jewish guy and a black guy, and a woman and a Cuban guy and a Canadian guy and Trump, whatever he is and some others, so why not a smart, handsome, titled, curly haired dog, ME.
So friends in Blogville and all your peeps, I can promise something that none of those others can. You can trust me because DOGS DON'T LIE.
You pal,  Fudge

The Short Stop

Hi, I'm Mackey and I love to play ball. Yes the ball is a little big for my mouth, but that's OK.
The bestest thing is when Dad throws the ball for me and I get to chase it and bring it back. Once in a while I even catch it in the air.

 OK Dad, throw it now.
 I'll get it!
 Got it!
Here it is Dad. Throw it again.
I can do this all day.
No Sydney, it's my ball. Dad and I are playing. You get your own ball.
Sisters can really be pests sometimes.
