Big Stud

Hi Everybody,
Yesterday afternoon Mom and Dad took Lola and me to  visit with Dr B. It was quite an exciting visit. Bailey was due for her checkup and Mom had a few concerns that she'll tell you about in a couple days when the lab tests are back. I went because she found a couple bumps that needed to be checked out.

Bailey was  first, then she and Dad went to wait in the car because she was getting a little overly excited. Then it was my turn. First the doc checked my eyes and ears and teeth and moved my legs around. He always does that stuff, he just can't help himself. Next he looked at a little bump on my back. He said it was a papilloma and could be removed with a local whenever Mom wants to have it done.

Then Mom showed him a really big bump on my tail. It's on the top of my tail, pretty close to my body. He said it was supracaudal gland hyperplasia, also referred to as "Stud Tail".  See, he said that I'm a big stud. I've known that forever and try to tell everyone I meet.  Now it's confirmed.

Mom and Dr B didn't see it quite the same way I did.  The doc told Mom that it's not uncommon in intact male dogs and quite common in cats. The area has scent glands and sometimes they get infected. Mine has. For now all Mom has to do is put warm compresses on the bump. They feel really good.
They also talked about other things that didn't sound so good to me, like the 'n' word, the one that rhymes with tutor.  If my tail gets worse the doc thinks I may have to have the bump removed and at the same time he wants to remove some other parts that I love very much. Mom and Dad were discussing it last night and I couldn't stand to listen.

Mom and the doc also talked about my moods. You see, I'm having a bad time accepting that Miss Morgan isn't here anymore. I know she was very old and tired and needed to go, but I miss her so very much. Mom told Dr B that I'm not acting like a happy boy lately. He said that I don't deal with change very well and that I just need time and lots of affection. Lately I carry my teddy bear around with me a lot of the time and I sit on Mom's lap every night while she tells me what a good boy I am.
Even big studly dogs like me need hugs and lots of attention. It's good that Mom and Dad and Dr B all understand me so well.

Your kind of sad pal, Fudge

We had never heard of the stud tail. That is interesting. Grief is so personal, we know you will work though it on your own time.

Oh Fudge...from one stud to another, I've been very sad, too. I had an upset tummy for about a month after Ruby went to the bridge. Now I'm bored. Dad wants a puppy, mom says no more puppies. I just want a pal. When I came here I had two pals, and even though they were old, and sick they were my pack. To look at me you'd think I'm a big stud, too, but I love cuddles with mom and leaning on dad when I sleep. Your pal,

-Otto

PeeeeS I got tutored. No biggie. It might help your mood, you never know!

You won't miss those parts, trust me! And removing them removes your risk for all sorts of nasty sickies!

It's good that you have Mom and Dr. B to understand you, but it's best that you have a teddy bear who will go everywhere with you. We all need our teddies now and again.

Big stud or not, we all needs cuddles. We're glad that your bumps aren't anything horrible. We think you and Lola...and the others...should get lots of treats!

Oh Fudge - I'm sorry you are having a hard time of things lately. I thought Beau was just getting old and tired but it turned out he had sore teeth. He's feeling better now - I hope you have something easy too. Also - we all knew you were a big stud! I'm sure you'll get to keep all your parts and pieces!! g

Oh Fudge, we know how you feel. We miss Zeus and Lola every day... and we know Zeus was so broken hearted at the end of his long life over Lola having to go that he wanted to join her very badly. We know you still have a long life ahead, though, and it's not your time just yet.
