Washed Out Weekend?

Well, we finally got rain.

Wednesday, when I complained about not being able to get the dogs out, we had 10 inches of rain. Then around 6 last evening it started again and we had another couple inches. We needed rain, but not a whole month's worth at once.

I'm really not complaining because many of our friends are facing this monster this weekend. Thankfully, Earl will stay at sea, but he's still bringing wind and rain and rough seas. Having lived on the beach for a few years, I learned to respect hurricanes and I hope all of you that will be touched by Earl stay safe and mostly dry.

Several people asked why Water Dogs wouldn't want to go out in the rain. Actually, they didn't mind, except that it was coming down extremely hard at times. It was me. I didn't want to go out in the rain and I didn't want to spend the entire day drying off ten dogs soaked to the skin, only to have them run back out in it again.

We managed to get them out between storms mostly and the few times they got soaked, I got them in fast and dried them. Morgan is afraid of thunder, so she didn't want to go out at all and held it as long as she could before Rob had to take her out and stand by her as she took care of necessities.

Today the sun is shining, there's a breeze and the temperature stayed in the 70s. We've been out a lot today even though the grass and ground are still pretty damp. We're hoping the weekend stays like this.

On September 1st we reduced Samba's prednisone again. She's taking 20 mg every other day. If she does well on this dose, we may reduce her once more in November to 15 mg every other day. That would be her maintenance dosage for life. At any lower dosages the disease tends to flare up and treatment would have to begin all over again. Both her eyes are working normally now and the paralysis seems to be gone. She's been a trooper thru this ordeal.

Fudge has a message for you.

Mom went to the store yesterday and came home with a bag full of toys. She put them up high and said they're prizes. Don't forget to leave a comment to be entered to win a mystery prize. I think she should let me test the prizes to be sure you'd like them, but she doesn't agree and she's the boss around here.

Wow! Fudge you can come live with me if you can convince Abby you can be the boss - lord knows I'm the boss of no one!

Yea, my pack doesn't mind the rain either, but I do. and how is that I can get 3 towels dripping wet drying them, wiping feet, faces and tails and they still manage to leave muddy paw prints on the new carpet on my stairs! g

Uh, Fudge, I am sorry to hear you won't be testing toys. I am sure you are a good and experienced toy tester. Just remember if you draw my name, I like squeaker toys. A toy without a squeaker is like a day without food. Thats all. Thank you.

Kisses,
Stella

Fudge, you are adorable! We didn't get any rain but we did get some wind although it's still hot. We need rain but like you, don't want it all in one day! Holly doesn't mind going out in the rain but I don't like her standing out there getting soaked and running in the mud! Lots of love, Debbie and Holly

We're waiting for the rain to get hard. It's just been on and off and no big winds yet so far. We're supposed to get a little of Earl's effects, but we don't think it's going to be too bad here. I hope it goes as well elsewhere. Stay as dry as you can and let's hope for some crisper weather when all is said and done.

lotsa licks, Lola

We don't like going out in the rain either--but mud puddles, that's entirely different. It's just SHE doesn't like having to dry three wet dogs. So we totally understand about your crew.

Such good news about Samba--all your hard work is paying off. Hope she thrives on the maintenance.

Would you believe, Sue, that we haven't had any rain here in New Hampshire YET? I think I am living in the wrong state and I should think about visiting you and your dogs so I can see what rain looks like! Haha!
I understand why you wouldn't want to dry off all of your dogs to only have them go out again and again! Makes perfect sense to me!
Take care....April

My goodness Sue that is a lot of rain. I can just imagine what a mess the gang would trail in the house if you let them out in it. I hope the weekend will be drier and that they can go out and get rid of all that excess energy that I am sure they will bottle up.
That Fudge... he is getting us all excited!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Thankfully, Early blew past us. All we got was a bit of wind.

We are having oodles and oodles of rain here at the moment too. Oh, hang on, there is some sun coming out just now. We better head out before the wet comes back...

After much preparation, Earl pretty much fizzled out.. we got a tiny amount of rain, but not much at all. And it's still hot.... sigh.

10 inches of rain! wooowwwweeee, that's a lot of water.

that's a bummer, Fudge, that you don't get to test the toys. how can you be sure that they are suitable to be a mystery prize?

woofs.

Mom hears you about having to dry off dogs (and there's only 2 of us...) - whenever it rains, every railing/chair back is covered with towels (some of which might be muddy...). Glad to hear that the weather has cleared up!

Glad to hear you and the Porties made it through Earl okay. I think we had some heavy rain for half an hour, but friends in Halifax lost power for several hours.

Momma's the boss? This is a strange and mixed up household indeed. Your momma is a very nice lady; I'm sure she has good reason for not letting you test the toys.

The rain is good to cool the day but surely not 10 inches of rain coming all at once.. glad you had a break for Fudge and the gang to go out for a good run.

I am glad Samba's getting better. She is a real trooper.

That's a lot of rain!! Your Mom would be busy for hours just drying you all off. Glad weather is getting better so you can get outside. Mom was looking at the pic of Samba & she looks like my sister. NO wonder people sometimes think I am a PWD rather than a Schnoodle. We like the water but are not really crazy about the rain either.

I'm glad Gretchen doesn't like rain and Sissy won't stay out too long without her.

Sissy would also like to lobby for Fudge's toy testing options...
