Avast, Me Hearties!

You're all acquainted with Captain Jack Sparrow, the handsome pirate of the Caribbean.

Now, meet Captain Jack Rabbit, handsome, but short, pirate of the Midwest.

Jack is the result of that pile of knitted pieces in my last post and he kept me very busy all weekend.

Captain Jack is a design by Debi Birkin. He's an easy knit, but caution!, he consists of many small pieces. I found one small  relatively insignificant error in his instructions and a couple places  that weren't as clearly explained as I would have liked, but all in all, he was fun to make.

The finishing took about three times as long as the actual knitting, but the fussy details were important to the final piece. I really enjoyed the beading and I added a parrot, not included in the instructions. Every pirate needs a parrot.
Captain Jack taught me something about myself. Most of my knitting friends say they hate to sew pieces together and try to find ways of knitting things in the fewest possible pieces.  I have learned that I actually enjoy the sewing part and love doing the fussy details. I also enjoy the backstitching on cross stitch, though most of my stitching friends dislike that, too. These parts make the item come to life for me, and I guess I'm just an oddball.

Impressive!! He is adorable, and yes, every pirate needs a parrot.

Now... where is he living so that your playful pups aren't tempted?

Totally adorable! And yes, count me as one who doesn't like the small pieces and fussy details part...If I need one of those, can I send all my pieces to you? :-)

Oddball, not at all - Mom is the oddball who can't figure out knitting. Your captain is amazing and of course he needs a parrot. Very impressed with your very detailed work.

Capt. Jack is just splendid. What a great creation and all of your added details are perfect (like the parrot!)

I'm not good at the details of little pieces, getting them stuffed, etc, but you are a wonder.

My limited skills lie with Stuffee surgery. Repairing holes in tummys, adding legs back on, that kind of thing.

Cheers,
Jo, Stella and Zkhat

I just saw Captain Jack on Ravelry (during one of my bi-monthly logins) and had to come by and offer my comments and undisguised admiration. He's wonderful!!
