Our Finest Gifts We Bring

We're famous!!!

Noah and his four footed housemates are the featured dogs this week on Dogs on Thursday. Be sure to look for them and while you're there check out some of the other adorable dogs and their families.

It's been a strange week with lots of highs and lows. We've spent a lot of time at the Vet's office and too much time at the car service center. We've given and received Christmas gifts and, sent and received cards.

Monty is having a hard time. He's been given medicine to help ease his breathing, but still has to stretch his neck out to get enough air. He finds it difficult to get into a comfortable position to sleep and has lost his appetite. I've been fixing all his favorites to tempt him, but have only had slight success. We're working closely with his doctors to make him as comfortable as possible. We'll have the test results back next week and know more about what we're dealing with. That's when we'll have to make the tough decisions.

Thank you to everyone who has sent good wishes his way. We appreciate the concern you've all shown for our boy.

Despite the sadness we're feeling about Monty's health, it's Christmas and we've been trying to keep going on with the holiday activities.

Yesterday I received a package from Chan.

Inside were goodies for people and goodies for doggies. Of course, we had to immediately try the doggy goodies. Everyone had a piece, Monty even tried a tiny bit and they all proclaimed them first rate. My dogs can really get into the holiday spirit when treats are involved.

There was a Christmas present for me, a carved dog puzzle box. Isn't he cute?

Included in the package was my prize from the giveaway she held recently. It was these holiday pet tissues. They'll be perfect for carrying in my bag when we pay visits over the next couple weeks. There was also the beautiful Willow Tree box with a girl and her dog. I've actually picked this box up in a couple stores and looked at it, but because I was shopping for other people I set it down again, showing unusual restraint.

What Chan didn't know was that I love little boxes and have a small collection. I have a few I bought in Russia, a couple from Mexico and Rob has given me a few over the years. They're scattered around the house, but soon I'll round them all up for a photo. I think they'll make a nice display in the library. Thank you Chan. Your gift couldn't have come at a better time.

We also got to be Santa yesterday. We delivered some little packages to our Vet Techs. They are wonderful ladies who help us so much during the year. They always show so much warmth and care to our pets and help us in so many ways. Thank you, guys, we really appreciate everything you do for us.

This year I was able to find little dog and cat pins for each of them that resemble their own pets. These are sweet little handmade pins made by Barbara Hansford in New Mexico. Visit her at Desert Impressions where she has just about every breed represented, plus other animals, too.

I especially liked the little dachshund. Isn't he a doll?

I couldn't resist this one for Chan who has a basset and also knits socks. I think Sissy has even been known to steal a sock once in a while.

I also had a gift for Nicki. She has been a good friend this year pushing me into blogging, helping me train Fudge and encouraging us to try competition, and now she's treating Monty. I cross stitched this Border Collie and made it into a pillow for her.

For Dr. B who has helped us improve the quality of life for all our pets and gone out of his way to do research and try new approaches to their individual circumstances, we gave a gift certificate. He's a tough guy to shop for so I resorted to my favorite gift, a trip to the book store.

I'm feeling tired and discouraged and the fun has gone out of the holiday, but we'll keep on going and get through this hurdle somehow. I'll try to be cheerier next post.

I just read about your incredible doggie family on DoT and had to come over here to say hi. Your pups are all beautiful babies. Your border collie needlework is incredible.

I feel so sad for sweet Monty who had such a horrible start in his life, but seems to have been blessed to be rescued by you. Know that I will be sending lots of warm and healing thoughts for you and Monty.

I'm back - I read your profile and saw that you're in Springfield. We're neighbors! I live in OP, Kansas.

And I forgot to add, please give all your pups hugs for me, especially sweet Monty.

Give Monty some sweet talk and love from us. I'm glad the package cheered you up for a few minutes.

Sending good thoughts your way...

PS - I do love my pin so! To date, Sissy's not trotted off with a sock, but give her time...

I love the Desert Impressions pieces, and all whimsical dog works! I have one of her Cardigan pieces and adore it :)

I didn't know she did customs too! I may have to see about getting pieces of each of my dogs someday. I seem to have a huge dog art addiction *G*
