Pretty But Cold

This has been an interesting winter. There's been something for everyone. We had bitterly cold temperatures earlier. Then we had rain. We had several inches of snow last week, which made for happy doggies, then we had temps in the 60s.

One night last week we had a heavy fog and in the morning when we went outside the woods were all sparkly.

The moisture in the air had frozen on the trees and when the sun came out it was really beautiful.

Everything in the yard was coated with a thin layer of ice which brought back memories of the big ice storm three years ago. I started thinking about what we'd need to do if the power went out again. Fortunately, the power stayed on and the sun eventually melted the ice.

It's impossible not to appreciate the beauty even while planning for disaster.

This spider was nowhere to be found. I hope he had a warm place to hide till things warmed up. He had dog hair in his web. It's everywhere!

Tsar thought it was great and wanted to stay out to enjoy the view. I had other ideas. I wanted him inside where he'd be warm and dry.

I didn't have to argue with Morgan. She was more than ready to find a blanket to curl up in.

Back in the house I made a cup of tea and sat at the kitchen table to drink it. There I had the opportunity to enjoy the roses that Rob gave me for my birthday. Have you ever noticed that white roses don't have much scent?

The red ones more than made up for it with their heavy perfume. I love that smell.

It snowed all day yesterday, but didn't stick to the ground. It's snowing again today, but there is a strong, cold wind along with the snow. We've been cutting our outings short because none of us like that wind. Even Tsar came in without a struggle.

I think Tsar is pleased about finishing third in MangoMInster. I know I am. He enjoyed the back massage and belly rub that we gave him for winning. In true cat-like fashion, he doesn't get very excited about much. I want to thank all his friends who voted for him and all the folks who helped to run this event. It took a lot of work and we appreciate it.

Your camera must be like my wedding ring - the first thing you put on in the morning.

Love the photos. Hope you get some decent weather soon! g

What a cool photo you got of that spider web! The ice does make all the trees so pretty but no one wants the power problems. Good for Tsar.

Great photos Sue. Tsar sure does look at home out there in the cold. It is just beautiful here today, sunny and mild. I even sat out on the front porch for a while and crocheted. This time last year we were shoveling snow!

It's snowing again here. Love those morning ice photos, but I'm glad you didn't lose power.

I can just see the cold in your photos. And, the winter storm you talk about is about to make its way here tomorrow. Schools are already closed in preparation for it!

Wasn't that a beautiful morning - it was like that here too and I thoroughly enjoyed being out in it.

It does look very pretty there. Your roses are beautiful - we hope you had a great birthday.
White roses are our favourites but it is true they don't have the same scent.
We are glad Tsar enjoyed his massage - that was an amazing success at MM.
It really was such a fun event.

Your pictures are gorgeous! The pups look like they had a good time (even if it was quick)in the snow! Your roses are beautiful. Nothing like flowers in the winter, we appreciate them so much more. I am not sure when your birthday was but Happy Belated Birthday!

Well done to Tsar you should be really proud of all your family. Love the pictures of the snow they look so beautiful and aren't you the luck one getting lovely roses, my Granddad used to have his garden full of them when he was alive and I love looking at them all he had such a large collection of them. A hope you had a love day. Sue x
