New Neighbors

We live next door to a farm. Our house is situated next to the back pasture and each spring we get to meet a new herd of cows that look over the fence and make some interesting noises to amuse the dogs. At the end of our development is another pasture filled with cows that watch the cars driving by. Last week we noticed that the second pasture was filled with a new herd, but there was a different look about them.

We now have a herd of American Bison as neighbors.

These are pretty impressive animals.

They have huge heads.

They also like to watch the traffic going by, but so far they've been very quiet.

Last week I reported that the boys had been to the vet for their annual check-ups. The reports came back on the bloodwork for all four boys and it was all perfect. This was one of our best check-ups ever.

Noah did have a splinter that had entered the bottom of his foot and was working it's way thru the web between his toes. It was a red, angry looking injury. He took an antibiotic for a week and twice a day I soaked his foot in hot water and an iodine solution.

Here Noah is demonstrating how he sat on the grooming table with his foot in a bowl for five minutes at a time. He was a very good boy and sat there holding his foot in the hot water until I told him time was up. On Thursday evening he started licking his foot and when I looked at it, the area was very red and swollen. We went right downstairs and soaked it immediately. The next morning the swelling was gone and the skin was pink and healthy looking. He still wanted it soaked, so we continued for a couple more days. Now his foot looks almost healed so I guess the splinter worked it's way out when it was swollen.

In honor of peanut butter month, our mid-day snack today was blueberry bagel pieces smeared with peanut butter and carrots. Everyone seemed to agree this was a good snack and there were no left overs.

While we were outside Morgan and Samba had a little chat. Who knows what they discuss during these times?

They get their heads very close together and some growly sounds can be heard.

They're obviously gossiping about something.

Then a quick kiss and they're off to play with the others.

What a good dog to hold his foot in the water like that! Your neighbors look like something/one my girls could have way too much fun barking at, and both dogs said they wished I would buy mini bagels for them!

What a sweetie - my dogs hardly let me wash their feet, much less soak them. Lilly won't even stand in water to be bathed - she has to be in the empty sink and have water poured over her.

Ouch! Poor Noah. Glad to hear he's on the mend. Thanks for sharing a pic of your very interesting neighbors! That is truly fascinating.

Noah was such a good patient that I hope he got some extra snacks. Bison are pretty impressive aren't they. I wonder what the pack would think of them? So happy to hear that the blood work came back just fine. It sure makes for a happy day.

What a good boy to hold his foot still like that! I can't imagine trying that with any of my babes. Have you tried peanut butter on the carrots? Yummy!
