Do you remember this fellow? This, of course, is Bailey's monkey.
He's been her best friend for years and has gone everywhere with her.
He got lost once and we searched all over town for him and Bailey was delighted to be reunited with her buddy.
Well, last Christmas I took a good look at Monkey and he appeared pretty well loved. He was torn and worn and dirty. He's experienced a lobotomy and disemboweling at Bailey's paws and jaws. So I looked around for a replacement friend.
I found several possibilities and put them all in the Christmas gift pile.
But Bailey stuck by her old friend, Monkey.
Then a couple weeks ago I noticed that when Bailey ran outside she grabbed a new friend, Bear.
Now Bailey always takes Bear with her. She carries him everywhere just as she used to take Monkey.
You can call me silly, but it makes me sad to see Monkey left behind in a heap on the floor. He was a good buddy for a long time. He experienced snow and rain and mud and vomit, all without complaint. I 'm kind of fond of the little guy.
But, there is a bright spot. At bedtime when Bailey goes into her crate to sleep, she grabs Bear, but she also takes Monkey. He gets to curl up with her and share her dreams.

Sounds like Monkey has just been retired from the heavy duty work, but is still loved and needed.
We were sure Bailey wouldn't be so fickle.

Awwwwwwwwww - it sounds like Monkey is still very much loved.
Love ya lots,
Mitch
Awww that's so cute!
I love that Bailey chooses the well worn friends. :)
Maybe Monkey was just never the same after Allred had his paws all over it.
Slobbers,

So, Monkey isn't forgotten. Bailey just recognizes that he is old and needs rest, so she plays with Bear during the day. Nice.
I'm happy she found something to haul around in Monkey's retirement, and he still gets to sleep with Bailey!
Stella loves toys too, but doesn't have one special one. She has to have about six in her bed, 4 in the living room and a whole basketfull in the kitchen. Then she is happy.
Cheers,
Jo, Stella and Zkhat
we love that story. My Lily has a wjite dirty doggy from when she was 10 weeks old

We think Bailey is very smart. She knows that Monkey has lived a long and fun life but needs some quieter days now. Since she really doesn't want to lose him again, she lets him rest inside while she breaks in a new pal:)
Woos - Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
I agree; Bailey has allowed Monkey to fade into "light duty" now. I can't sleep without Sissy pinning one of my hands down and Gretchen Greer snuggling close.
Oh poor Monkey. I'm glad she still cuddles with him. g
Love is eternal - if not always exclusive. Glad Bailey has two favorite stuffies.
So very sorry to read the recent posts about Tsar. Hope the prednisone helps him enjoy as much time as possible without pain or fear. He knows he's loved and that's really what we all want and need.

Awww we love monkey too. There's nothing quite like a favourite old stuffie. Glad he still gets to snuggle at night time. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory
Awww... so sweet!!!!
Davis, my sister's dog, never had such friends to play. No interest in it. So funny your dog adopted the monkey and now the bear!!!!
