A Friend In Need

About a month ago I was worrying about what sort of new neighbors we'd be getting. Well, we lucked out. They're a nice couple with a teenage boy and a toddler girl. That might not sound ideal, but in this case it's good. The boy is polite and interested in the dogs. The little girl loves the dogs and shows no fear. The mom and dad are nice too. They have a one year old pooch who is very friendly and no one seems bothered by some barking now and then.

This morning a lost dog showed up on their  deck. It's been very hot here, so they offered him some water and he stayed around all day. This afternoon they asked us what to do with him. We've been thru this a few times so we got into action.
He was wearing a collar but had no tags. He's too thin, probably been on his own for a few days at least. He was covered with burrs and something sticky so Rob and the man across the street gave him a bath. Then Rob carefully removed tons of burrs with a comb. He stood absolutely still as Rob worked on him.
I gave him a bowl of food and one of water. He finished both, then licked my hand. I wanted to cry. They're so grateful for any help and he seemed to realize that we were trying to help him. Next we introduced him to a crate. He didn't want to go in, but was coaxed with a couple cookies. He settled right down and is currently snoozing in the garage.

In the morning we'll take him to Dr B to see if he has a microchip. I've contacted the training club to see if anyone recognizes him and we'll check with the humane society to see if anyone has reported him missing. I want to avoid turning him over to a high kill shelter and hope we can find his home.
Isn't that what Independence Day is about? Helping each other.

It's nice of you and your new neighbors to help this poor dog. We've taken in a couple of dogs this way - most notably, Max, who stayed with us for 12 years. We've also taken in more than a few cats, although they stayed away after we got Thor's predecessor, Julie. She was very defensive.

What a cutie!! I'm always glad and very thankful when a pup in need finds someone like you and your neighbor to help them find their way!! Let us know how it turns out--I'll hope that the owner is missing this boy!

Robert gets double July 4 blessings for cleaning this guy up.

Maybe he has already found his perfect home. . .maybe Tsar sent him.

Kisses,
Stella, who thinks he is beautiful!

Oh Jo, you stole our thought. We are sure that Tsar guided him to where he knew there would be kind and loving helpers. He is handsome, such a sweet face.

Hope all works out for him.

Happy Independence Day and Happy Birthday to the U.S.A.!!!

What a kind story. Paws crossed that it has a very happy ending, with him being reunited with his very worried family soon!

Here's hoping for a chip and for the boy to be reuinted with a family searching for him... and if not, I hope you will be able to find a suitable home without having to deal with the shelters. :)
