Let me take you back about a year and a half when we brought the 'Blues Brothers' home with us. I asked for help with names and you convinced me to go with the original, Jake and Elwood.
Jake must have been sick when we brought him home and only lived a short time. After his death Elwood became very quiet. He had been an active noisy bird, but when he was alone he stopped playing and stopped singing.
After a few days of sitting in opposite corners of the cage staring at each other, they all made friends and the house is filled with their chatter all day. They're an active bunch working at destroying all the toys in the cage.
A couple weeks ago I reported that we had experienced a bird fight. Rob and I heard screams and a scuffle and found Stanley, Calder and Norris on the bottom of the cage rolling around pecking at each other. Elwood was watching the action from the top perch. We broke it up and I wondered what had started it after all this time together. Now we know.
Yesterday morning when I removed their cover and went to feed them I found these.
Yes, I messed up. Elwood should be called Ellen.
A few years ago Cloud laid an egg, then ignored it. She never laid another, so yesterday I removed these two eggs and hoped that would be the end of it. Nope. Last night when I went to cover the cage, there were two more eggs. I'll be buying some white marbles to replace the eggs to fool Elwood/ Ellen into thinking she has enough. I don't plan to start raising baby Budgies.
Life is never dull when you have pets.

I'll join your party, I wouldn't want baby birdies either. Gug!

Bwahaahaa! Sorry, we're laughing! Poor Ellen/Elwood, she's going to be sitting a long time on marbles.
XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
You are so right, life is never dull when you have pets, but lets hope it stays dull with the marbles make it that way for your sweet birds!
Hmmm...better you than us. We don't know what we'd do with budgies.
I agree with Daisy, Bella, and Roxy....its gonna take a long time for those marbles to hatch. I don't know too much about pet birds but how would you know if you bought a male or female anyway?
Can you take the eggs to a pet store? Ellen must have a boyfriend.
BOL Mom thinks this is pretty funny. She had canaries, but she knew the sexes. She actually had two nestings, two hatchings, but the rest of the stories are too long to type here. She should post about it one day. She is thinking about getting another canary after all the house renovation is done. So you don't want to let those eggs hatch?

I really don't understand why you don't want to raise budgie babies. I mean, it's not like you have much going on with having 10 dogs, house training two puppies, dealing with your own allergies, and and and.....
I think you are being lazy (she said ducking and running away giggling)
yes I am kidding, no one in their right mind wants to raise budgies ♥
oops is right! hehe
Love ya lots♥

D'oh...
Reminds me of Laura and Mary, my first two rabbits. Turns out Mary was Marvin, and they had two litters...
Never ever dull! Ha... My sister had a pair once and they raised a baby --a little male whom they were fiercely protective of. All that ended when one of her outside kitties slipped in and knocked the cage over..and well you know.
Good luck fooling El....and hoping no more fights.
Tomorrow is the Celtic Festival in Buffalo--am taking the three girls and it's going to be hot unfortunately, but hopefully they will do well anyway. I think we will be able to set up a fan for them.

Oh my goodness they obviously get along really well! BOL

Ha ha ha ha you often make me laugh and that is really goooood. What's in a name after all?
One of my daughter's parakeets started laying eggs (she had been alone in her cage, next to the cage that held another girl bird, although they both came out to play when my daughter was home), and she started laying eggs. My daughter called the vet, who said they were "automatic eggs" and this sometimes just happens. It was upsetting to Shannon. Eventually it stopped. Good luck to Elwood/Ellen hatching the marbles.
I had two canaries of undetermined sex. One of them started laying eggs and so I assumed the other was a male until she, too, made a nest and started laying eggs (I was lucky enough to witness the egg laying so I knew where they came from). Both of them seemed happy enough to sit on their eggs and act like moms. Eventually, though, I took the eggs away.

Oh... but how cute they would be! :)
I'm confused - did the eggs hatch? And now you have a few birds? Or is that just a pic of baby budgies?
