Happy Father's Day

This is Noah's post today.

Today is Father's Day and my brother Sky and my sisters Tess, Lola, Bailey, Norma Jean and I all want to wish our dad, Fudge, a very happy day. We'll all try to be extra nice to you today. We'll let you get in the water first and you can pick the toy you want to play with. We won't even
object too much if you get an extra cookie.

We have something called a pedigree that tells us who all our ancestors were. Sue has found pictures of some of them and we want to wish a happy day to our Grandfathers, Kerchak and Brilho and to all our Greats.

This is Fudge's dad, Kerchak.

Fudge's Grandfathers are Jake

and

Uno

We also want to wish our mom, Samba's dad a happy day, too.

This is our Grandpa Brilho

Here are some of our Greats. They're a pretty handsome group. Our mom's family is from Portugal and so we don't have as many pictures of her ancestors, but the ones we have look pretty wild. You can check them out for yourself.

In the early 1970s our breed almost became extinct. There were only 27 PWDs in the world. We've made a good comeback, there's even one of us in the White House, but because the gene pool was so small the same dogs appear in everyone's pedigree and sometimes they appear several times. Sue studied pedigrees before we were born and tried to make sure nobody showed up too often in ours. She chose a line of true Portuguese working dogs and a line of US show dogs so that we could have the best of both worlds. We think she did a pretty good job.

Gretchen and I had fun looking at all the relatives, especially the ones from abroad. Gretchen is a little concerned that she might have to get her hair done, but I've assured her that isn't part of her breed's game.

Happy Father's Day, Fudge!

wow, only 27 left in world. what a great comeback. It's neat to have the pictures of the dogs in their pedigree. I have some pics of Squirt's relatives, but I don't have papers on any of my dogs, I know Oreo's mom and that is all, of course he's a mix so there would be no papers anyway. I wish I had puppy pics of the other two...

I love looking at old pedigree photos. The difference between the lion cut dogs and the puppy cut dogs is striking. Both are good looking in their own right.

Happy Fathers day to all the fathers, human or canine, in your life.

Wow!! That was a really interesting post! We thinks your momma very clever to have studied pedigree ...

Our Chief, every since our fortunate 'accident' i.e. the Fur Kids have been somewhat interested at how mixture of different breeds would turned out. We're all with the exception of Trixie, certificate-less so although we are of certain breeds, the Chief really haven't a clue where we originated from.

She said the Fur Kids would end up looking like mini-hounds when nobody believed that I, TUffy the Basset could actually father pups with a Doberman! (so short! how is it possible??)

Anywoos ... the Chief who's also into baking and cooking explained that 'pedigree' is really about perfecting the recipe of a certain breed ... that's her simplistic explaination ...

Sounds yummy if you asked us!

So neat to see...each one is beautiful. Love that you have the best of both worlds. That Jake is striking. I thought of Fudge on Fathers Day:) I know he had a good one.
