Don't Talk To Strangers

Don't talk to strangers. Even if they're well dressed!!!

What were you doing at 5:30 this morning. Were you snuggled in your comfy bed? Were you drinking your first cup of coffee and reading the paper? Were you standing in a warm shower? Do you want to know what I was doing this morning at 5:30?

I was washing dogs, four dogs to be exact.

I let the four girls out this morning while I filled the breakfast bowls. I heard some barking in the yard and when I went to get them, a horrible stench filled the air.

Bailey was shaking her head and rolling on the ground. The other three were shaking their heads and sneezing.

We had a visitor in the yard. When the girls ran outside and surprised him, he didn't react in a very friendly way.

I woke Rob and we washed the girls one by one using the only things we had in the house, Dawn dish detergent and V8 juice.

Now my girls smell like eight hearty vegetables, but it's better than they smelled before.

Oh no, Mom's worst fear when Thunder Dunder goes out early here and then won't come back in. Sorry for all that extra work.

Woos, the OP Pack

At least it was the smaller half of your group that caught the smell.. but four stinky dogs sure is a lot to handle that early in the morning.

Oh no! That's terrible, Sue. My co-worker had this happen to her twice in the past two months with her little weiner dog. Incidentally, I was up at 530 feeding Blue and Clemmie.

Ick. At least they didn't chase the scared beast under your front porch. (We have narrow lattice in place now, so THAT will never happen again...)

Here's to a better day ahead for all of you.

Oh NO!! Java and Mom walked through skunk spray one time - Dad soaked Java in tomato juice and got his smell pretty well under control, but Mom smelled for weeks - especially after a nice hot shower!

XOXO
Lilly, Piper, Carrleigh and Java

PS - this is what our Vet recommends:

Skunk Smell Remover
1 quart 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
1/4 cup Baking Soda
2 tbsp Dish Detergent. The stuff for washing dishes in the sink, not something for dishwashers.
Mix the ingredients in a large bowl, because it will boil up like Vesuvius. We are, after all, making an oxygen generator. Wash the dog with this while it is still foaming, because it is the oxygen which reacts with the thiols in the skunk stink to neutralize the odor. If it sits around, it will loose it's efficiency because the oxygen boils off. Don't try to store it in an airtight container, because it will blow up. The brew also works for clothes, humans and unlucky cats.

Oh my goodness. Well look at it this way Sue your day can only get better, right?
I can only imagine how horrible that must have been for everyone.

I'm thankful that Thor has never found a "wood kitty". Our old lab Max found one in February a long time ago, and I had to take him to the dog wash. There's just no way to wash a dog in sub-freezing weather and snow. I deeply sympathize. At 5:30 I was sleeping, and happily so.

Sorry to tell you Sue that I was in bed fast asleep at that unearthly hour!!!
Still that was a good early start to get the best out of the day.....
We don't envy you having to bath dogs at that hour - still you obviously had no choice!!!

Oh, no. I have a skunk family living under the chicken coop, but none of them has ventured into the yard...yet. All they do is eat the food I put out for the stray cats. I think I need to stock up on tomato juice.
