Maggie and Mitch, the ones who told us about watermelon a few weeks ago, announced on their blog that yesterday, July 19, was National Ice Cream Day. Rob and I both love ice cream, so this was one holiday we weren't going to miss.
Yesterday, after doggy dinner, we loaded Fudge and Sky into the car and headed for Andy's for ice cream. We decided to give the dog's their treat first. That way they'd be satisfied and we could eat ours in relative peace. It worked out perfectly.
We pulled into the parking lot and Rob went to get the ice cream while the boys and I waited in the car. They kept their eyes on him all the time.
He got each of them a dish of vanilla.
Sky dove right in. Nothing shy about this boy when it comes to food.
Fudge was distracted by the people driving by who slowed down to watch them and called out to us, but he tried his.
We kept them apart, Sky on the pavement and Fudge in the grass.
Fudge is a pretty dainty eater and is slower than Sky.
Sky eats much too fast and he was finished long before Fudge. He was willing to give Fudge some help, but I didn't allow sharing.
Fudge decided this was really good and forgot about the people standing around watching him.
And was it good you ask? Well, here are your answers.
Sky says: It was really good, may I have some more?
Fudge says: Man, that was great.
Rob and I ate ours and we all decided that ice cream is too good to only have it's own day. We should definitely have National Ice Cream Month

How about ice cream day of the week?! I'm so glad Noah and Skye are doing well together again. (Aren't they?)
We vote for Ice Cream Month!!! You two are just like me and Phantom - one gulper and one daintyboy.
Woos, Thunder
how do you decide which two to take???? great idea, i think i'll vote for national ice cream day tomorrow.
See - because Fudge got his hair cut so short he didn't waste any in his beard, unlike Sky :)
Hope you got yours in a cone - or with a spoon. I'm guessing you did because there are no photos of Rob sticking his face in a plastic bucket.
We had ice cream yesterday too - but on the sofa, we didn't go out for it. g
In my house, we have Ice Cream Day quite often.. it is my weakness. Marge usually gets a small taste of vanilla, too.
Sure looks like they enjoyed it.
YAY for ice cream! we get our ice cream tonight because our mom forgot it yesterday until she looked at all of the blogs. Oops! we are magicians when we eat ice cream. we make it disappear. poof!
woofs.
Yeah for ice cream day! They look like two satisfied customers. I never would have guessed that our Fudge was such a dainty eater. He is just full of surprises. I just love all the ice cream on Sky's chin. They must have had such great fun!

Those pictures are just darling. Charli loves ice cream too. I think every day should be national ice cream day. It's just to good to pass up.
Very cute..You need to visit my dog blog!! I love this breed of dog!!
I can't believe I didn't know about National Ice Cream Day! lol
Great pics!!!!!!
You guys are very patriotic to put so much work into celebrating such an important national holiday. I could not agree more that it would only be the American thing to do to celebrate this holiday for an entire month. I will be writing my Congressperson.
wally t.
National Ice Cream month is a brilliant idea! We're marking it on the calender!
We love you licking your lips in the last picture, Fudge!
Love ya lots
Maggie and Mitch
It's been far too long since I've had any ice cream. Not fair at all! I'm like Sky when I eat ice cream, but instead of having a beard I save some ice cream for later on my ears.
Thanks for the advice about, Tagpi. I think in time I'll learn to accept Tagpi's eccentric behavior. I think I've gotten too used to having a peaceful and quiet house and having all my toys all neat and intact in their basket.
Well, dang, if I'd known I would have made lots of ice cream. I vote with Chan for ice cream day of the week! Love Fudge's final picture.
So cute! Your guys are lucky - mine will never taste ice cream....
Yes, Ruby is a BIG chewer of everything around her. I remember this stage with Freckles too at this age.
Ruby has damaged a piece of sheet rock in my kitchen along with two of the outlet covers in my kitchen....
Freckles ruined a room of carpeting an hour and a half after it was installed back in 1998.....
I vote for International Ice Cream Month! Great pictures! Sky and Fudge sure enjoyed a lot that:)
xoxo,
Thor
Looks delish! I am so sorry I didn't read about National Ice Cream Day until after it was over!
Your friend,
Niamh
National Ice Cream Day? What a wonderful thing! That picture of Sky with an ice cream beard made me laugh!
Ah, HA! Ice cream is good for dogs and people!
