Something New

We've been seeing dogs on other blogs enjoying watermelon. My dogs have never had it, so we decided to try one and see if they liked it.

We bought a seedless variety. I didn't feel like picking out all the seeds and I don't know how the dogs would handle them.

Rob cut it up in the doggy bathtub in the garage.

We debated giving them each a slice, but since this is their first experience with watermelon, I decided on pieces.

We put a pile of pieces in the big pink tub.

At this point they didn't know what they were getting, but there was a lot of interest.

Notice Fudge. He's downhill from Rob, but jumping as high as his shoulder. He's very excited about this whole adventure.

In the foreground, Norma Jean is airborne, too.

OK, let's see what's in here.

Wow, this is different.

They each take a piece and wander off to enjoy it.

They like it and everyone is coming back for more, except Tsar. He didn't care that much for watermelon.

Samba stood there with her head in the tub, eating as fast as she could. Rob had to pull her away to give everyone else a chance.

Watermelon seems to be a hit.

Fudge planted himself at the side of the tub, too.

This was so good that they wanted more.

Here comes the second batch.

This was sure a good idea.

There's only a little bit left.

They want to get every piece.

Rob had to lift the tub to get them out of it.

Thank you, Maggie and Mitch for suggesting watermelon as a cool treat. My pack really enjoyed it.

Since that's a fave fruit of the Knight's, I'll have to get a couple of seedless melons for him to share with his fur-girls this long weekend.

LOVE the "air" photos, particularly the impressive heights Fudge soars to!

Great pics.. .and how ironic because I just gave our kids watermelon for the first time last week when I was cutting some up and I swear it was like DOGGY CRACK... well, for 3 of the 4 anyway. Zeus wasn't having any of it! But the other 3 went NUTS for it!

What a great treat idea for summer! I'd probably go with the seeded variety to let the dogs engage in a seed spitting battle...

My guys will eat watermelon, but they have to fight me for it. It's one of my favorite summertime treats. Proves I'm a real Southerner, huh?

Love the pictures of the Fudge jumping. That's amazing. Funny how everyone but one will like something. My guys like all kinds of melons - cantaloupe, honeydew and watermelon. Everyone but Abby who will eat it just so the others don't get her share, but you should see her expression while she's doing so. Funny! g

I know many seeds and pits are dangerous for dogs, so the decision to go seedless was smart. (Not sure about watermelon seeds, but you can never be too safe!)

How nice that they can all share out of the big bucket. My dog would gobble it all down and not share with anyone.

Great pics! I know MaggieMae likes apples, and now I will have to see if she also likes watermelon. I do have some cantalope, so maybe I'll try her with that first. But I'm with Goldentracks, because I love it all too!!

Ohhhh! I've never tried watermelon before. My hoomans were feasting on it the other day, but they were so inconsiderate and didn't bother offering me any. How rude. Maybe next time my sad puppy eyes might make them change their mind. Fudge can really fly high!
