Mud Season

That fifth season of the year has arrived, the one that runs from fall thru early summer with occasional short periods of frozen ground interrupting it. It's called Mud Season. Over the weekend our snow and ice melted in temperatures approaching 60 degrees. We were left with a fenced in acre of mud.

The dogs don't mind mud at all. In fact, it seems to be even more fun when racing around the yard to slide thru the muddy areas and to try to knock another dog down. The object of the game seems to be to see who can get the most mud in their coat. The dirtiest dog wins, unless I grab that one and stick it in the bath tub, in which case that dog loses.

I know the feet of the black dogs are just as dirty, but since I can't see the mud it doesn't bother me as much. The ones with white feet bother me the most. This is Noah eating his dinner after a game of get muddy.

I think we're getting a handle on Sky's vomiting problem. After fasting for 24 hours, he ate ID for three days from his new 'bumpy bowl'. Now he's back on his regular food. He hates this bowl. He gets very frustrated because he can't get his big head in the bowl to scarf down his food. He has to work it out piece by piece with his tongue. I'm sure he'll eventually learn to overturn it and dump the food out, but it hasn't occurred to him yet. After eating, he gets a time out, either in his crate or on the window seat. I don't want him running and jumping till he's had some time to digest dinner. We've had no vomiting since Thursday.

Speaking of eating, here's something you don't see often, Tsar eating his dinner. Tsar only eats about three days a week , but he's been playing outside in the cold a lot lately and it's helped his appetite.

Today Morgan and I went to visit my friend E and her dogs. Brody needed his annual check up, so we went along. He got a perfect health report card.

Then we went back to their house and Morgan had a chance to see her friend Callie.

Callie is a very sweet, quiet girl who spent way too many years in a puppy mill, turning out litter after litter. She was never socialized and is terribly shy and she has some major health problems, but since being rescued by E she has lived in safety and comfort. Morgan really enjoys her company. They like to get a couple of chew toys and settle down next to each other to enjoy a quiet afternoon.

Oh you have a different bumpy bowl than we do. Dudley hates his too - although while he hasn't learned to tip it, he has figured out how to get all he food to the middle and inhale. g

The inlaws' Nick (the black and white sheltie) has a bumpy bowl too. Thankfully, my girls are polite, delicate eaters. Glad the upset seems to be under control.

what an interesting bowl. is it supposed to be good for them to have to struggle to find their food? the muddy feet would make wonderful muddy art...why don't you have a go...put down clean white paper and let them make art!tee hee.

Thankfully, Thor never pigs down his food. Actually, he doesn't much like dog food, and given your vomiting problems, I suppose I'm grateful. Good luck dealing with your mud issues.

Mud... I soooo feel for you! We live in "the great northWET", where it's muddy about 9 months out of the year! heehee

Our backyard even floods, making it WORSE. Our beautiful mudpit. We could sell tickets for the wrestling matches! LOL
