The Rains Came

It's been hot and very dry here. I can't remember the last time we had rain, but I think most of the month of August was dry. The grass is dead, the trees are in bad shape and the night creatures have been coming around to drink the water I set out for them.

This morning at 4:30 I fed the dogs and let them out. Once they were back in and settled down, I went back to bed. Sometime between 5:30 and 6 Morgan jumped in bed with us. She was panting hard and trembling, so I knew what to expect. Sure enough, minutes later the first thunder boomer came.

It's been raining and booming ever since.

I'm sure the plants are enjoying this, but looking out the window at the ever increasing mud in the back yard isn't fun.

Dogs have to go out, even when it's raining. We waited as long as we could, but it didn't let up, so they raced out the back door into the deluge.

Coming back inside, they each shook right next to me, so I was about as wet as they were and I hadn't even been out.

Now we have that lovely wet dog aroma and a bunch of unhappy pups who can't go out to play today.

So what's a dog to do on a dark, wet day? Curl up on the couch and snooze. Now you see one of the reasons we have leather furniture.

This is post # 497. Be sure to leave a comment if you'd like a chance to win a mystery gift. After the 500th post we'll select the winner. Even if you've already left a comment, you can still receive another chance to win.

We feel your pain. We need the rain for sure but so much all at once??? It started here around midnight and continued until mid morning. We have some sun now but more is on the way. We have lots and lots of mud, or muddy clay would be a better description - Mom has the towels at the ready for our muddy paws.

It rained like the dickens here yesterday too! We just go outside, do our business and then get back in bed and sleep while mom's at work... no different than any other day, really!

I had a very similar thought yesterday. I was soaked walking to work - I thought I should make some wool skirts, but then I'd smell like a wet sheep instead of a wet person.

And why - oh why - do they always shake right next to you? I can even towel dry them and they still manage to share some wet with me.

My boy Fudge looks like he needs a hair cut. I can't see his beautiful eyes! Hope you don't have to consider building an ark any time soon. g

Hello Sue...You are so lucky to have had a rainy day and I hope you will send the rain over to New England because we need it! Sure, it was great to spend the day at the beach yesterday but now that I'm back to reality here in the city, the heat is starting to bother me (and our 4-legged clients) a lot!
I love the pictures of your wet dogs! How miserable they looked but they also look awfully darn cute as well!
Another fantastic post! Thanks for sharing it!

Of course I want a mystery gift. Sheesh. Do you need to ask?

We are keeping our paws crossed for rain on Friday. It has been so hot that momma won't even let me stay outside in the shade.

Mango

I would love to get some rain here. I love the way it cools everything down and it is so refreshing. But Lola is not a fan of the rain. And I am not a fan of the mess. But I agree with you on the leather couch.

It's been raining for that long? Wow. We're in desperate need or rain here, too, but I really hate when it all comes at once. I prefer it to be spaced out a bit, rather than a torrential downpour for an entire day.

It's fortunate that only one comes to whine when the boomies are coming, instead of all 10! Thor tells us when the storms are on the way, too. And he's been known to nearly tip over my chair if the thunder is loud enough.

We had rain yesterday too. It had been a while since we had that much rain. I do think you should have posted a pic of yourself all wet like the dogs.. that would have been fun!

We've just had a VERY rainy winter. It's broken a decade of drought. So we know about that doggie perfume and mud.

Looks like you may need to put down another layer of straw!

We've had very little rain this summer. We had a few storms the past month but not enough to bring the grass back completely. Depending on the hurricane, we might get more than we want all at once though. Lots of love, Debbie and Holly

Wow..we pretty much never get rain in the summer. I hope you can keep the mud somewhat at bay...good luck!

The good part of no rain is that the grass just quietly drys up and you aren't out there mowing all the time.

Here, its been hot, but we have had a ton of rain and mowing is what we do for exercise! Such fun!
I'll take snow shoveling anytime over the lawn mower!

Cheers,

When we lived in a subdivision, we had to walk our dogs instead of just letting them out--The dogs never could get what we were waiting on when it was pouring outside, they loved walking in the rain!! :-)

Oh, it's gotta be hard with a houseful like that stuck inside.
We're expecting some part of a hurricane on Friday. Franklin and I will be checking the weather so we know when to expect our last chance to pee without getting wet or blown away by the wind. On the other paw, if the house is still standing when it's over it should be a lot nicer. Temps look more earthlike and less like the furnaces of hell after the storm.

lotsa licks, Lola

My dogs are either muddy or kicking up dust!! -can't reach a happy medium.

Congrats on the 500th post - we'll be at 350 soon and I want to have a contest, but so far have no good ideas or prizes.

The lovely dog aroma ye? hehhehee.. I had soap all on me today and i only bathe one dog today. But Fudge's wet looks made me smile. He sure is a lovely brown even when he is wet.

We still don't have much rain here Sue... trying to grow watermelons ain't happening.. *LOL* They keep trying to die on me. Hope the rain tides up a bit over your side.

Luckily, my girls aren't crazy about rain either. Scratch that; Sis doesn't care. Gretchen would rather not have raindrops fall on her head or wet anything touch her feet, unless she's at the beach.

Lola is wondering if she can sniff out the mystery gift... :)

We're awaiting the rains to come tomorrow..... sigh.

Those days are so hard when it's rainy outside! My dogs go stir crazy! Does it take long for your little ones to dry off? They look like they can be a handful in the rain! Very cute! I love them. You have a great blog! :)

mystery gift???? oh fun! sign us up!

we had rain too. we go from dust season to mud season. the human never seems to be happy about one or the other. why do water dogs dislike rain? because we are SILLY, is what our human says!

woofs.

Smell of wet poodle here, but that is because it was bath day for Gordy. Why do newly bathed dogs insist on going outside immediately and getting their paws/legs dirty?
