Snowy Sunday

Last night it started to snow, big soft flakes, just drifting down. This morning we had two or three inches and it was still coming down.

Since its' much more difficult for the birds to find food under all that snow, we made sure all the feeders were full this morning even before the first cup of coffee.

As you can see, it was appreciated. We had quite a gathering at the seed bar also known as the deck. There's one young squirrel, much smaller than the others, who comes and stuffs his face full of sunflower seeds. He won't be the smallest for long.

The dogs all enjoyed the snow, but I didn't take any pictures. It was just too cold. I went out with them and watched them acting silly, but at 18 degrees, I don't stay out long.

Samba doesn't stay out long either. I'm concerned with her thin coat about her getting too chilled. She wears a jacket for her short outings, but there's another problem that has me worried.

Her legs and feet are almost hairless and I see some red areas that concern me.

I think there may be a visit to Dr B this week to make sure she's still on the right track with her treatment.

With her immune system compromised, we have to be on the alert for infections and I want to address these red legs before they become infected. I'm sure the snow and cold can't be very comfortable for her, either, so she stays inside where it's nice and warm.

Even Tsar says the snow would be much nicer if it was a little warmer.

OH sweetie - know that I am thinking of you always. I think I've told you my mantra while I was loosing weight? You can't give from empty. Remember that - it will serve you well while you are caring for this lovely pack. g

Poor Samba, this cold must be very hard for her. We had about four more inches of snow overnight and it is just frigid out there - AND no end in sight from what we can tell. We will keep our paws crossed that she is OK.

Hair loss is so scary. I noticed some under Marge's tail today. I don't know if it's just shedding season (I'm not quite sure if she blows her coat yet or not) or if there might be something else going on. My other hunch is that she might have allergies.

Good luck to Samba if she does, indeed, have to go to the vet's.

I do hope that Samba will be ok. I will be thinking about her. No snow here but plenty of rain. I guess if I want the snow I will have to go up to the mountains. Give Samba a hug from me.

Oh, Sue! Not something else for you and Samba to deal with...You KNOW I Know how you feel. Hope this turns out to be of little or no consequence.
Enjoy the birds and the snow.

Great pictures of your bird feeders. We have just one feeder and not as many birds feeding at one time. A lot of traffic all day long but not so many at one time.
Bambi is 12 years old now and she started having hair loss and I started giving her olive oil a
teaspoon a day. Her hair started coming back in a week.
Hope this is going to be a good year 2010 for us all, Fern

Poor Samba. Too bad she can't wear little booties! Your temperatures sound much like ours. I am hibernating. The boys don't let Thor stay out for more than 3 minutes, not that he wants to. He is with Tsar in thinking snow would be so nice if only it were warmer!
