For Lucy

This morning we said good-bye to Lucy.

She has been suffering with liver disease for several years and in February when her bloodwork came back we knew her time was limited.

Wednesday she rapidly started going downhill. She had diarrhea and refused to eat, even her favorites. On Thursday she stopped drinking.

She became weak and a bit disoriented. When we spoke to her, it didn't always register.

Yesterday her vet put her on IV fluids to re-hydrate her and attempted to interest her in food. If it worked, we would bring her home for the weekend to say our good-byes.

This morning she was still not eating or drinking and still had diarrhea. We made the awful decision that had to be made. Rob, Morgan and I drove to the clinic to be with her. Rob held her as Dr. Nicki administered the injection. She was gone quickly. Then Morgan got to see, sniff her and say good-bye.

She was a very little dog with a very big presence and the house seems much too quiet.

Oh my heart goes out to you all! She was a beautiful girl, but she's a shining star now looking down after you!
I know how hard this is as in April I had to make the same decision with one of our dogs plus a cat.
I know Lady (Siberian Husky) took it hard as with myself so we went and got a new pup.
From our furball family to yours, lots of Love, hugs, licks and slobber!!

I'm so sorry. We had to say good-bye to our beloved Fred last October, and I'm wondering how long we have with Mugsy. It takes a big heart to be an selfless owner.

I hopped over here from Nichole's blog. What a beautiful tribute to her.
So sorry to hear of your loss. But you know she is frolicking, jumping, running and no longer in pain.
This dog house is sending plenty of paws hugs to you.

Oh Sue, I'm so sorry. Lucy was beautiful. I have a Lucy too, there's something in the name. I'm so sorry - I'm really proud of your being able to be strong though, I know what a hard decision that is. g

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss of a loved family member, my heart goes out to you.
We've been there too. But what would our lives be without our furbabies and their love?

I'm so sorry for the loss of your beloved Lucy. I know all too well what you are going through. I hope it helps to know that Lucy is welcomed to the other side of the rainbow bridge by all of your former dogs, and will be there to give you kisses when she sees you again. [[[Hugs]]]

What a beautiful post too!
I love the poem from the previous post.
My thoughts and prayers are with you this week!
I was so heart broken when my tiny furry dog friend passed away 5 years ago and still think of her sometimes.
They sure do leave paw prints in the heart these furry angels!
