Fireworks

We made it thru the fourth. We're experiencing a severe drought, but despite the pleas of the fire marshall to leave the fireworks to professionals in designated areas, the less intelligent beings in the area shot off fireworks for three straight nights. We kept a close watch on the woods behind us.
Also this year we had some new noise problems to contend with. Usually the water dogs don't pay any attention to the sound of fireworks or they bark back at them. This year, however, Bailey was showing signs of stress and wanted to stay in her crate with Monkey and Bear to keep her company.

The most unusual change was Samba. She was disturbed by the noise and stayed close to me. Every time I tried to take her outside, someone would shoot another round and she'd run for the door, trembling. We finally got her to go outside at 2 AM.

Meanwhile the stray dog was sleeping in a crate in the garage and we didn't hear a peep from him. Thursday morning we took him to the vet clinic to check for a microchip. As expected, there was none. We left him there while we paid a visit to the Humane Society shelter.
No one had reported him missing.

Then we drove around the neighborhood looking for 'Lost Dog' posters on posts.
There were none.

I had posted his picture online, but had no responses.

So...................

OK, you knew it was coming, right?

Sebastian had an exam this morning. He's in great condition, except that he needs to gain a little weight and his paws are red and irritated, probably burns from the hot pavement. His heart worm test was negative. He was given his vaccines and had a microchip implanted. On Monday morning he'll be losing a couple of unnecessary body parts and on Monday afternoon he'll be heading to his new home....here with us.
He'll be our new pack member. So far Morgan is the only one who has met him and that went fine. He's a very calm dog, reminds me a lot of Tsar. We were waiting for his medical tests before introducing him to the others.

Welcome, Sebastian. You've landed in a fabulous place with a most wonderful pack.

Samba, we're sorry the booms stressed you. Mugsy also "grew into" his thunder/fireworks stress later in life.

Morgan, Gg says next time, she'll come and run and scream at the booms for you. (It's her Cracker Jack Russell Terror way of dealing with her own stress...)

Tsar knew you would miss him so much that he had to find a replacement. It took him a while but he did it! Welcome Sebastian, you are in the best home you could ever, ever find, even though at first you were one door off.

Kisses,
Stella, Jo and Zkhat

Jo says, maybe I didn't know it, but I hoped for it!

Yaahoooo! Welcome Sebastian. Well little man, you have landed on your feet. Your new family will keep you busy and you have a new mum and dad to love and we know, they will love you right back. Life is good. You have started our weekend with a good news story. Thanks mates. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory. P.S. Sorry about the stoopid old fireworks!

Yep, it was Tsar who sent Sebastian. You will have to tell us how he got his new name:)

So sorry about the booms. We think Phantom was a bit bothered by them but not as badly as in the past. Lack of good hearing helps:(

Have a great weekend - we think the new boy is going to fit in quite well.

Woos - Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning

I just saw this poem and maybe it belongs to you....

Oh what unhappy twist of fate
Has brought you, homeless, to my gate?
The gate where yet another stood,
In search of shelter, warmth, and food.
From that day I ceased to be
The master of my destiny.
I can’t believe I never saw
How within my house, he became the law.
He chewed my furniture and he shed,
He claimed the middle of my bed.
He loved me unconditionally and I can’t deny…
He broke my heart the day he died.

So you who stands here on my mat,
Do you think I want to relive all that?
You just showed up, forlorn and thin…

Don’t just stand there… come on in!
