Dad's Little Helpers

I have my helpers in the kitchen, specifically Samba and Sky who are true chow hounds, but Rob also has helpers, even though he doesn't always value their help the way he should.

Take this week for example. A couple days ago the lawn was getting a little shaggy from all the rain we've had recently, so Rob got out the mower to get the weeds back under control.

The inspection team had to make sure the mower was in good working order before Dad risked life and limb on it. Here the team is starting the check list.

While Sky inspects the controls, Bailey stretches underneath to be sure the undercarriage is in order.

Next, are the tires properly inflated?

Finally a quick check of the seat and steering. The mower passed inspection and the team was able to come inside while Rob mowed. Another good team effort to help Dad in his chores.

Remember this hole? Bailey started this a long time ago and each of the PWDs has taken a turn digging. It's one impressive hole. We thought it was a good idea to let them have this one spot to dig in and perhaps save the rest of the yard from being dug up.

The night before last after the dogs were bedded down, Rob poured a couple bags of top soil into the hole and smoothed it out. Goodbye hole.

Yesterday morning at 5:30 I let the dogs out. The first thing they noticed was that during the night someone had filled in the hole. Knowing that Rob would be devastated by this turn of events, they worked diligently to reopen the hole.

There you have it. The hole has been reopened and the pack was happy that when Dad came out, he wouldn't be upset about that stranger closing the hole. Well, they were partly right, Rob was surprised. I hope he realizes now that the hole is here to stay.

There probably would have been more shared chores but the sky started looking like this and I decided that everyone should come inside.

We got lots of rain so the next time the gang went outside they got to play in the mud again. I give up, let them have dirty feet for a while.

Don't you wish you had such a helpful pack of dogs to give you a hand with your chores?

You guys work hard for the money! I like to be similarly helpful by lying right in front of the stove when it is time to make dinner. The ma ape needs some scenery, you know?

I'm glad I wasn't eating or drinking while reading today. I bet Rob was INDEED surprised...

What a helpful team of dogs you have there! And so many helping paws. We try to do our best with the digging and moving the plants to more suitable locations but we can never do the work of all you dogs.
Good work team.

You didn't tell us about the pack watering the tires, to check for air leaks! Thor helps us with that.

We had one mastiff who kept digging a hole under a rhododendron to sleep in. After filling it in a couple of times, we learned our lesson. I hope Rob is smarter than we were!

Thor's favorite chore is being certain that nothing from the dinner table stays on the floor if it falls. It's so helpful; he just knows I don't need to sweep the floor...through the dog slime...

Haha! We were going to say that the Kennedy dog (and Ted himself) would be too well-mannered to soil the Senate. Which is not to say that many of them would not deserve it!

We're in for a vet weekend here, too.

Too funny about the hole. Of course, they were only trying to help open it back up so that you guys wouldn't have to do it!

I love how thoroughly they checked out the mower. I'm so glad they are concerned about Rob's safety.

We put a mountain in our backyard specifically for maintaining a lookout to make sure the yard was safe - and for digging in. That has not stopped super-digger Beau from digging all over. I totally don't get it - the ground in the yard is so hard I can hardly get a shovel in, but Beau can dig holes the size of him. g

You guys are such hard workers! And so talented! I'm sure your daddy appreciated all the help with the lawn mower and the garden hole.

Yeah ... sometimes I wish the pack were more guided in their mischief. I know they do try to be helpful. Like whenever am pruning or gardening they'd help me chew off bits of leaves (since am snipping bits off plants anyway) ... but always at places that I don't want them pruned! Or when am digging in the yard and planting, they come along too ... and dig out what i've just planted or sit contented on those poor plants i've planted just to keep me company! :P

But well, dogs will be dogs. They are entertaining while u work ...
