C.A.R.E.

Today was the day to donate to a shelter.

Noah and Morgan helped me get the items together and then went with us to deliver them.

We started with a blanket that I knit , then added a box of doggy treats.

We had a number of old collars. Some were outgrown and some have just been replaced by the new ones they got for Christmas.

Last year we found a great buy on the laundry detergent we used. Only a few weeks later the washing machine died and we had to replace it. The new one requires high efficiency detergent, so we had all this detergent just sitting there. Animal shelters do enormous amounts of laundry, so they could probably use it.

We headed to C.A.R.E. (Castaway Animal Rescue Effort ) They are a no-kill shelter that rescues animals from death row in the local kill shelters. The animals are well cared for by a number of volunteers.

Jessy, one of the volunteers was happy to get our little donation of items.

C.A.R.E., like most shelters has a published 'wish list'. To give you an idea of some of the items they need, I'll share their list.

empty ink jet and laser toner cartridges, shredded paper(not cross cut), kitty litter,
stainless steel holding cages, large pet carriers, air freshener, blankets, treats,
plastic dog houses, straw bales, trash bags, collars, leashes, paper towels, mobile cages,
premium pet food, medical supplies, towels, pet beds, exercise pens, yard tools, toys,
postage stamps, gloves, disinfectant, liquid detergent, office supplies, VOLUNTEERS, CASH

Here are some of the beautiful dogs who are waiting for a forever home.

It's very hard to spend time there. I always leave in tears, but I remind myself that these are the lucky ones, that have a safe place to stay until they find a home. They aren't wandering the streets in the cold and they are no longer on death row.

Even in tight financial times when we might not be able to write them a check, we all probably have something around the house that we no longer need that can help a shelter to survive.

Tears are streaming! It just breaks my heart to see those pups in cages, awaiting a forever home. Wish I could take them all. We have the same thing out here. Hard, hard, hard.

Well, you left me in tears... I just hate that not all dogs have good, safe homes! (Thanks for thinking outside the box - would NEVER have thought to donate detergent, and we toss our shreddings, so I'll have to see if a local shelter might want those...)

I love that you support CARE. I went in just to look at the pups last week and saw that Shepherd mix (the big brown). If I had a farm, he'd likely have a home. Love that you posted the "wish list." -Trish

I wish for everyone of those little angels to find a forever home. What a kind person you are to donate those things. I know that shelters need all the help they can get.

What a great reminder - especially with spring cleaning projects on the horizon.

Thanks - I've been needing a good cry :\ I think the first little guy in the cage needs to go to Dianne with her brittneys. So glad that you are always reminding us to help make other better. g

Every time I see homeless dogs in their cages like these, I just want to bring them home, but two is all I can handle right now.

Bravo! I want to come get all those precious babies waiting for a home... maybe this is why I have so many already (ok, I have half the number you have but it is 2.5 times the number I am allowed to have in my neighborhood -- shushhhhh!). Good thing I don't leave nearby or I'd be there now!

Oh, the tears are falling. I want every one of those dogs (especially the first one). If only I could win the lottery, I would buy a farm and save them all.
